Macs at Bestbuy stores
« on: September 29, 2003, 11:55:34 PM »
I went to a Bestbuy store close to Torrance to pick up some ink and DVD/RW disks.  I went over to look at the computer section and noticed the Mac displays.

Well first they look cool and would look better if the employees would move the large latter out of the reach to the customers.

Not onlty was that a disapointment to see, but when a man was looking at the iMac G4 on the endcap the employee said "oh it's a Mac" let me show you something better.

This is what Apple had trouble with Bestbuy and Macs being sold in the Bestbuys stores.

The Macs end up being hidden away, this time not in a corner in the back of a store, but by putting a large latter in front of them preventing customers to try them out.

Then tell a customer that it's a Mac and let me show you something better and took the man over to the Sony PC section of the store.

Well I did my job as an ex employee at shadey store and their dealings, because I knew how to unlock the latter and move it out of the way of the beautiful Macs so people could have access to them when they look at computers.

After I did that a man walked up to the KOOL G5 computer (envy) here you know...
and began looking at all the features the Macs had to offer him, I even walked over to him and chatted and I walked away watching him play around with the Mac.

As I was standing in the line at the register to check out, I looked over at the computer department and there was the latter back in front of the Macs again.

It's a big mistake for Apple to try and sell Macs at Bestbuy, no one there knows anything about a Mac and don't even bother promoting them either.

I hope Apple starts puttin in Apple people in the Bestbuy stores to sell them to the customers looking for a new computer.  If Apple fails to do that, then it's a bomb for Apple like it was many years ago when Apple Computers were in the Bestbuy stores.

Good luck Apple!  You are too good of a Company to be hiddin away in a shadey, dealing company syuch as Bestbuy.

Apple All the Way! clap.gif

Well did you inform Apple about this retail experience?  Did you get that employee's name?  Tell the manager?  Get his name? I'm sure Apple would appreciate this knowledge because the resellers must comply to their license contract.  Besides, if you're really a loyal Apple fan, you shouldn't let them get away with this B##S.

Apple was warned about this before contracting with Bestbuy all over again.

They had this problem before and Bestbuy just isn't going to change.

Apple needs to send in undercover people to watch and see what these people at Bestbuy are doing.

When I worked there all the employees were told to sell, and to sell with a bestbuy service plan, no service plan, the product is out of stock or you are just left standing waiting for someone to assist you.

The Company won't change because Bestbuy makes it's prifits on it's service plans and as an ex employee of Bestbuy, I got it all on audiotape and papers as well.

Apple should've opened little Apple stores through out California and other larger states.

They would do better business that way then to try and make a profit through Bestbuy.  Circuit City isn't any better, but they are not a corrupt of a company like Bestbuy.

Good luck Apple, don't sink your sailing ship.... Thinking.gif

Scuse my ignorance, but what is a 'latter'? Sounds like some sort of security gate.

Apple had similar problem with PC World in the UK some years back and pulled out.  They are back in, but I don't know how it's going for them. (PCW is part of Dixons Group, known over here for selling product insurance with a free electronic device biggrin.gif) .
Best general retailer here for Apple is John Lewis Group. Their salespeople don't work on commission - they share the profits so, as one told me, they have a vested interest in having happy customers leave the store... they come back again. When I bought the iMac I got a TWO-year on-site warranty included in the standard retail price. I'll certainly go back there.
(When I made my first inquiry for information, the response from the person I spoke to was 'I'm not too well up on Macs; hang on a moment and I'll get our specialist'. He did and she answered all my questions - some were test ones where I already knew the right answer.)

Highmac, I think Tonye means ladder. wink.gif

I just wanted to respond with what I saw at CompUSA where I live. It's not much better than BestBuy.

I got to thinking about this. Maybe we could find a contact at Apple who would be interested in seeing pictures of what we see when visiting these sleezy places. I think I'll look around and see if I can find someone to report to.

I bought my first Mac at a Best Buy store. I can't say that the sales people influenced my decision. In fact, I didn't even consult them. They soon dropped Apple, and shortly after that, I couldn't get much more than zip disks that were Mac formatted from them. I bought my second Mac from a catalog. Now, we have an Apple store. I'm not in the market for a new computer, and I have all of the software I'm going to need for quite awhile. I've purchased one accessory for my son's iBook at the new store. I hope other people are buying more than I have!

Remember, it's Best Buy - not Best Service.

Tonye I agree with you on Best Buy.  They are the pits. I haven't seen any Macs in our Best Buy stores here yet.
Bruce F , I also agree with you on CompUSA. The ones here have fairly nice displays, but back in an obscure corner. The sales people won't even come near it if one is browsing around. It's disgusting. I also agree that we should send pics to Apple about these stores. Let us know if you find a person or department to talk to or email to. thanx.gif
