For those wondering, there is an up-to-date program. http://www.apple.com/macosx/uptodate/

All G5 owners can get the reduced price on Panther.

However, the PDF for mailing/faxing cannot be found, and the database seemingly cannot find my Serial Number. I'm thinking they don't have the system correctly setup yet.

I will be ticked off if I cannot get Panther via Up-To-Date just because I'm and educational customer.

Available at 8PM????? Strange time...

Y'all know how I feel about OS X, but after paying for the beta, 10, Jaguar...I'm not paying for Panther. (Yeah, right...famous last words) biggrin.gif

I'm going to upgrade my 350Mhz G4 sometime after Macworld SF, Panther should be pre-installed on the G5 by then. My only concern is wether I'll be able to use the G5 install disk of Panther with my 12" PB.

Um...kps...I don't think it's legal to have the same version of Panther on both the G5, you're going to buy and your PowerBook. So, if you want to use if on your PowerBook, I guess you'll end up with having to buy Panther after all. smile.gif

I am going to order Panther pretty soon. Even perhaps pre-order.

I am thinking of skipping the G5-owner reduced price and go for the the 5-user licence. I there more than one CD included? Or just multiple licences?

 Dear me...did I say that?....ummm, I'm allowed a backup, no?...yeah that's it...I'm backing it up to the 12" PB...yeah... wink.gif  biggrin.gif  biggrin.gif

As I said above, "famous last words", I'll probably relent and order. It's far too easy with "one-click". laugh.gif

I just placed my (pre) order with Apple. Much to my surprise, the Government rate (USD $64.50) was $5.00 less than the Education rate. The subsequent confirming email indicated a Delivery Date of PM, 24 Oct. biggrin.gif

Apple's Federal program: http://www.apple.com/r/store/government/epp.html

I called a few months ago and asked if military retirees were eligible for the Government rate. The Apple rep. assured me that is indeed the case.

Being of a kind, loving, and generous disposition, I normally allow my wife, an employee of Johns Hopkins University, to place my orders using the education rate, especially as the education rate is usually less. But not this time. I do hope she understands. Devilish2.gif

Hmmm... I just called Apple sales.

I was informed that Panther is not available on the government rate. The lady also told me that only current federal employee's are eligible to use the rate.

I guess it depends on who you talk to?  unsure.gif

Anyway, I hope it works out for you, Harv!

I as watching TechTv today and they mentioned the Panther upgrade would be available for 29.99 for those who just want to do an upgrade rather than buying a whole new operationg system for 129.99.

I am sooooo happy that Panther is on it's way and soon to be my new OS.

Do you have a URL to share or any other way to substantiate that?

I searched around and couldn't find a thing. dry.gif
