iTunes broadcasting
« on: October 03, 2003, 11:58:48 AM »
Hey everybody smile.gif

I was just thinking about this, cause i would love to see my own radiostation broadcasting on iTunes.
Even more when i move to USA wink.gif
They have online broadcasting through Windows Media Player but i don't really like the quality, AND it drops out every so much minutes (or worse).
Than i started thinking, is it software we need? or a contract with Apple? or both?

Anyone knows?

Marcel,

Maybe you could get in touch with a radio station that is broadcasting MP3 now and get some information.

I listen to KEXP with iTunes all the time. It broadcasts from the University of Washinton in Seattle.

There may be considerable cost involved. I emailed another radio station in my area that broadcasts only Real Audio and Windows Media. The answer to my question whether they might ever get streaming MP3 was quite blunt. They said they don't have a deap pocket like KEXP, which is funded partly by Paul Allen the Microsoft Billionaire.

Kelly, the link you provided was information about music sharing on iTunes 4 smile.gif
It's probably the case that you have to get a contract with Apple of some sort.

Bruce, it might be a good idea yeah, to mail the radiostation and ask if they would like to have this deal with Apple and send via iTunes Radio Broadcast.
I'm listening to Club 977 on iTunes, mostly together with Smiley and it's pretty fun to listen to same music together smile.gif
When i move to Boston i'll miss the good Belgian bands we have, like dEUS, Pragha Khan (USA know's them as Lords of Acid), Hooverphonic (although they are on a breakthrough in USA), K's Choice (who is actually living in NY most of the time) and a numberous other ones.
I guess there's always Windows Media Player off course sad.gif

(((sigh))

Now I understand better what you're attempting to do. I was at work when I responded the first time and didn't look at the article that kelly posted.

Unless you're paying a for commercial grade internet hookup, I can't imagine any ISP allowing you to run streaming audio from a home connection for very long. They do monitor bandwidth usage!

My point Marcel. Was that's about as close as you're going to get to it. smile.gif

Forget about iTunes.

Ask yourself what it would take to start a Radio Staion.

I'd say several million dollars at the very least.

Then see if Apple wants to stream your music. smile.gif

Ok people, i think i have to clear something here biggrin.gif
I'm NOT gonna start any iTunes broadcasting or even thinking to set up a radio station.
I was just wondering how it worked, and what it would take to put one up.
If it wasn't to hard, to expensive, i might have mailed our radiostation (really altarnative station) to try it biggrin.gif

That's all, hehehe smile.gif
