Jaguar/Classic Printing Issue

I am looking for some help on this topic and this is the only post I find.

I am having a similar problem.  We have an iMac 350/G3 that we just loaded Jaguar onto.  I am trying to print from MS Word 98  in Classic to a Lexmark Z25 printer.  When I start to print, I get all the spooling screens and then an error beep.  The print monitor shows up in the Dock, bounces up a couple of times and them goes away, and no printing.  When I look under the Apple menu in classic, the Lexmark control panel icon has an "X" through it.

We have no problem printing from OS X apps.  I re-loaded the drivers, checked that all the extensions and control panels needed are active, and have re-started Classic.  This usually does not work, but on a couple of times, after classic starts, the print monitor shows up and the documents start to print.  But this usually is not the case.  I have tried printing from other Classic apps and get the same problem.

And how do you boot into OS 9?

I am frustrated, and my wife is irked.   Any help would be useful.

Thanks,

Hi Gary. smile.gif

To Boot into OS 9 from Jaguar.

Go to System Preferences > System > Start Up Disk.

Click on the OS 9 Icon and Restart.

Try getting and Installing the OS 9 Printer Drivers while Booted in OS 9. smile.gif

From OS 9. Go to Control Panels > Start Up Disk and choose OS X.

On any Mac, the Startup Disk Control Panel lets you select which System Folder to Boot To.

In OS X, this CP is found in the System Preferences under the Apple Menu.

Click on the System Folder that is labeled Mac OS 9.x (the 'x' being a wildcard character because I don't know what version of 9 is installed on your G3 - 9.0, 9.04, 9.1, 9.2.2), then click on the Restart button.  Confirm that you really do want to Save and Restart, and the Mac will shut itself down and start back up in OS 9.

I can't answer your question about the source of or solution for the printing prob, but if you boot into OS 9 and try printing there, your success, or lack thereof, along with any specific error msgs should provide additional information that will lead us to both.
