Carbon Copy Cloner question. . .
« on: October 02, 2003, 09:59:22 PM »
All right, guys. . .I don't understand!  I'm trying to use CCC, and when I hit the "clone" button, it tells me I don't have the right "administrative password", but whenever I go to install something, and it asks me, I NEVER get that.  So, I followed the advice you gave to June about changing the password, and it still gives me the same message!  I'm rippin' my hair out here. . .What gives? upset.gif

Try repairing permissions before you go bald, Ed.

Nope, that didn't do it, Kris, but thanks for the suggestion.

Anybody else?

Better than going bald or thinking things need repairing, enable and log on as the root user, then do your CCC thing.  Sometimes even the admin group permissions can not overide things that are owned by the system.  Only the root user can. smile.gif

IE crashed while I was responding ...

Anyway, sometimes you have to run Repair Persmissions from the CD to get them to work.

However, if you are brave:

How many passwords do you have?

Did you at any time enable the root user through NetInfo Manager and gave it a separate pswd?

Your primary pswd, the one you established when you first installed the OS should work. I would also trash CCC's preferences.

Ijocampo & KPS. . .Thanks, guys!  That did it! And it seems to be working perfectly! One thing I did figure out, though, was that the program "Sleepless" seemed to be throwing a monkey wrench in the works, and so I just had to "baby sit" while CCC was doing it's job.
