Available via the System Preference/SW Update. This time it is 6R73 (540KB).

As yet, I can tell no difference between the former 10.2.8 and this version. The DL and install were routine. All appears normal, but it is far too early to know for sure.

While I had no problems with the first iteration, indeed I will proceed slowly before installing this on my other drive.

It looks like a small update.
Are you sure it's not just a patch to fix the 10.2.8 that people already had downloaded?
I'll check my updater...

Mrious be. You are correct. The DL for me was 540 MB because I only needed the patch/fix from my old 10.2.8 to the new version. To update from 10.2.X to the new 10.2.8 will be significantly larger-about 40.6 MB.

Well, that's what it saying here "40.6Mb" for the OsX10.2.8.
It's big, but doable for an update

Perhaps this, from MacFixIt, will help...

What are the steps that one should take before performing a system upgrade?

Answer:
1. Before running the update, check your startup drive for damage and repair it, if necessary. The easiest way to do this is to boot from the OS X Install CD and run Disk Utility (from the Installer menu). Click the First Aid tab, select your startup volume, and click "Repair Disk." (If you know how, you can instead start your Mac in single-user mode and use fsck, as this runs the same repair routines.) If you have a third-party disk utility such as Alsoft's DiskWarrior, you can also run that for good measure.
2. Before running the update, repair permissions on your boot volume. To do this, launch Disk Utility while booted from your normal startup drive, click the First Aid tab, and then click "Repair Disk Permissions."
3. Install the update.
4. After running the update, again repair permissions.
5. If you still have problems, try applying the combo updater for the current release (when it becomes available).

Well, because I wasn't afraid of this update (patch?) I didn't run DFA first. I did, however, run it afterwards.

The log generated by Repair Permissions had no siginificant remarks. But then, I keep my machine pretty clean all the time...

Updated the new "new" 10.2.8 onto my new 10.2.8 update. Only thing I've notice is that the battery indicator is no longer a depressing-meter. I.e. showing 1:30 battery life instead of the actual 2:20 battery life. However it's now a happy-meter and shows 3:38. Hmmm... Not sure I'm happy with that, I rather be surprised the battery last longer than 1:30 than know that the battery has no chance in h*ll to last 3:38 as it did when I first got the machine.

This is been an item with Mac OS X since I got the machine, after I had upgraded it to 10.2.4 it started dropping battery life... for no apparent reason since I wasn't overdoing the battery use, nor did I just run on A/C. So it doesn't make sense.

I have a spare battery, gonna try that tomorrow and see if it's forever ruined by previous updates or if it actually going to run more than 2:20.

Other than that the only good thing with the new update is that Mac OS X finally finds my color sync profile I've set as standard again.... didn't do that after the last upgrade and went to the generic washed out setting.

So things looks like it's back to "normal" as much as "normal can be in this computer world.

Been running the update on another partition and so far it seems ok.

Debating whether to update my main partition or hold off till Panther comes along.
Anyone else thinking the same?

The Software Update came to me with the Combo 10.2.8 as the only option. That's probably because I have 10.2.5 on my machine--never went to 6 after reading negs. about it. Download is 100MB!!!

Need to follow Harv's instructions before installing.
