Not long after OS 10.2.8 update (the second) was released, I read where someone was experiencing Safari crashes. The fix was to download the OS 10.2.8 combo installer and run the installer right over the top of the update.

End of story... another happy camper.

At the time, my system was a solid as ever. But I put that tidbit of information away in the database in my head.

Well, for the past couple days, I have been experiencing Safari crashes. Not only Safari, but System Preferences, Disk Utility, and more.

Finally, I woke up and remembered about the Combo Update trick and I haven't had a problem since. whistling.gif

If I'd still been running OS 9, I might be working on the problem for hours. This problem with OS X was fixed in 5 minutes!

OS X is so easy to maintain, it's almost scarey! thumbup.gif

Good to know info. Bruce, thanks.  Safari has crashed a few times for me as well, but only on my B&W Mac.  If it continues, I'll give the combo update a shot.

I might add that I customized Safari with SafarIcon after the *first* update.

It's hard to tell whether that had anything to do with the crashes, but I doubt it. Just the same, I'm leaving things alone for a few days to see how things pan out.

Well, I spoke too soon.

Applications are still quitting. Today, Transmit quit while it downloading an installer file. Following that, I ran Disk Utility > Repair Permissions. Within seconds after the drop window announced that permissions were repaired, the application quit.

I can hardly wait till the 24th...  whistling.gif
