Extremely OT: Canadian coat question
« on: October 09, 2003, 06:41:13 PM »
This has been bugging me and for no good reason i thought i'd ask the question here.
A while ago i was in Montreal in the winter. I noticed a guy wearing a parka that seemed to have a badge on it and i asked what it meant. The reply was that int meant the wearer had a lot of money.
My now wife and i then saw a parka outlet sale and went in and they had the coat but even at a discount it was indeed expensive.
I'm now in the market for winter coat (maybe for Christmas because i wouldnt spend the money on myself) and have been wondering about this brand.  of course i cant remember the name.
It was well known up there. It was not Roots, which at the time was only available in Canada.
The badge-like logo was gold but embroidered.
Any ideas on the name and/or availbilty in the U.S.?
Thanks, eh (which is not heard often in Montreal).

Hey Hingy, I did a search in some of the place I shop but nada? http://www.ems.com/ http://www.llbean.com/
I prefer NorthFace equipment. PEI is OK, a good quality goose down with a Gortex shell is the preferred material for me, it’s warm and breaths.

If you enter “Parka in the search engine @ http://www.epinions.com/
you can see a variety of Brand Names.

This one I think is Canadian, it has an emblem, but I can distinguish if the color is right.

So the $575 coat is $40 USD? Wishful thinking.
How could i forget that name? and it was that very outlet center we wandered into. I dont see the gold emblems i remember but i ordered the catologue. And too bad fur is a no-no in NY. It looks great.
Thanks!

er, no, the $575 CAD coat is $434 USD.

Yikes - what, exactly is so great about these jackets? They seem a tad overpriced to me...

How about:

Columbia Sportswear Ice Wind II Parka ($200 USD)

I think SB meant "REI" - not PEI (the province...where it doesn't get all that cold in the winter!)

But they look expensive, that's the key.

Thanks Paddy, yes REI. I also think Columbia wear is a good choice. At lot depends on the garments use. If it's active wear, climbing skiing, and what have you, or casual wear? If the choice is purely aesthetics well that’s in the eye of the beholder. wink.gif

I think it was hingyfan that was interested in the coat. Your welcome Db, I have family in BC and they don't like it either wink.gif

It was this quote by SB a little further up that got me wondering, gmann...
