When you folks (who have these MDD 'puters) reboot into OS 9, does the fan kick into high gear?

Not High Gear really, or just for a second or two. smile.gif

High Gear is like a vacum cleaner.

It shouldn't stay there though.

It is louder under OS 9.x .

My brother picked up a single 1.25 the other day for the company Kelly.
I partitioned the 80 gig hd into one small for 9 and the rest for Jag.

In Jag the puppy is close to noise free (except when it boots up for a few seconds).

When I boot into either the 9 that I still have in the Jag partition or the 9 in its own partition the fan kicks up a few notches [maybe not in high gear].
I'm used to my 933s being close to zilch in noise, it's kind of hard to know what is high gear.

Oh yeah.
I was surprised that it had OS 10.2.7. installed plus all the latest apps and programs.
Thought 10.2.7. was for G5s only yet the dvd installer/restaller is labeled "G4".

Bill, as for 10.2.7, you could check the build number. In the "about this Mac" window, when you click on "Version 10.2.7", the build number will appear.

Check out this list to make sure which version exactly it is.

10.2.7 for G4 was seeded to Apple developers before it was re-named 10.2.8.

Bill,

That machine may benefit if you do a Open Firmware reset. Doing the following corrected the fan problem with my MDD G4.

Startup in Single User Mode: Cmd-S

1. At the prompt, type: reset-nvram
2. Press Return.
3. At the prompt, type: reset-all
4. Press Return.

BTW! I forgot to mention to you about your site becoming perhaps more famous than you might think.
A few months ago I was with one of the local water district head supervisors inspecting a few field sites.We needed to go back to the main office for some plans that was forgotten.
They use a lot of Macs. iMacs, G3 towers and a few G4 towers etc.
I noticed the head [guess one could call her a trouble shooter] office supervisor had your site on her screen plus one of apples pages in another window.
We were in a hurry to get back out in the field so all I could ask her while walking by again was something to the effect of .. "Hi. Whatcha got there .. pointing towards her monitor". Her reply: Cross checking information from apple and this website Bill.

I have no idea what she was checking because we were out the door and gone.
Plus I completely forgot about the whole incident till just now. smile.gif

Now on the build.
I was just over to my brothers home and checked.
It is 6R55
By your site, it's for the G4 powerbooks.
It runs great on the Mirror machine though.?.
Wonder if apple screwed up some how?
Again ... It runs great.
In 9 it runs great also. Just a bit noisy ... or more than I'm used to maybe.

I might try your suggestion but the machine isn't mine.
It took a hole lot of arguing, teeth crewing .. plain old fix this mini tower 300 or let me ... or get a new box jive.
The main game plan was to let one of my 933s take over the work load but I bailed out of that idea for several reasons.
Though it floats in the company account, basically it belongs to my brother money wise except for the extra ram I stuck in.
I'll just have to play that one by ear for now.
Besides, most if not all work will be out of Jag and that baby rivals my 933s ... maybe ... biggrin.gif

But I don't know if my website is really that famous. I mean, with 10,000 visitors per month it's not bad either, but I just saw that www.apple-history.com has an average of 60,000 visitors. Glen Stanford is doing a great job with apple-history.com, no question, but the fact that he updates his site once in 3 month and I do it (at least) weekly is sometimes a little bit frustrating.

But it is my hobby and I won't complain. smile.gif
