Open Office for Mac

QUOTE
Question: What is OpenOffice.org?

Answer: OpenOffice.org 1.0 is a full-featured office productivity suite that provides a near drop-in replacement for Microsoft Office. Users report that little or no training is required for people migrating from other office suites - everything works the way people expect.

The free office productivity software suite features key desktop applications - including word processor, spreadsheet, presentation and drawing programs - in more than 25 languages. In addition, OpenOffice.org 1.0 works transparently with a variety of file formats, enabling users to exchange documents freely with users of other office suites, such as Microsoft Office and StarOffice [tm] 6.0 software. OpenOffice.org 1.0 software is stable and runs natively on multiple platforms, including Linux, PPC Linux, Solaris [tm], Windows and many other flavors of Unix, and will fully support Mac OS X and Darwin upon completion of the port.

SB -

Not to rain on the parade, but OO.org has one major shortfall that I'm not sure is fixed as yet - the ability to copy and paste into docs from the clipboard.

Otherwise, it looks, feels, smells, acts, and all else like M$ Office as far as I can tell (short of the Access equivalent, but then, you've got MySQL or PostgreSQL).

I run it on Yellow Dog Linux and it runs well (a little bloated, but hey.....it's a GREAT suite. And GPLed at that.

That whole paste thing keeps me from it for now, though.  wallbash.gif

Take care.

Hey Thanks Chris, I posted it for folks getting into OSX, it seemed like a GOOOOd tang.
I agree on the ~copy to clipboard thingy~, I use it all the time!
I had downloaded it when OSX was in Beta, or shortly there after, it was in it’s infant stage back then. I would have thought, IN the Final Beta version they would have added copy options by now?

If I get some time and another Box, I’ll run OSX again, install a bunch of software I’ve collected and see if it will stir some passion!

Seeya!
