I know it's not a major thing and it's probably an easy fix too, but here ti goes:
When I double-click on the Hard Disk icon on my desktop (I am running 10.2.
I want to see the window in full size and in column view. Usually, when you set these preferences, they are valid until the next time you re-set them to a different setting (eg. small window and icon or list view). That's what I used to get too and all was well until a couple of days ago. Now when I double click the HD icon, the window that opens is small and in icon view. When I resize it and change the view, it keeps my settings until the next time I reboot, when it reverts to that small window / icon view. In Finder Preferences the "Open new windows in column view" option has been and still is checked.
Someone told me that these kinds of prefs are stored in files called .DS_Store and that I could fix the problem by deleting the relevant file. TinkerTool allows this, but a search I did revealed 202 .DS_Store files, so I have no clue which one to delete. Also, I am not sure whether this will solve the problem and most importantly if it is indeed safe to delete the file, assuming I find the right one.
So, I guess my silly question is how to fix this nuisance of a problem?
