Does one need to buy the full version of Panther, or is ther an upgrade CD that take you from 10.2.8 to 10.3Panther?

You need to buy the full version. There is no upgrade CD that I'm aware of.

The CD's you buy with the full version lets you choose to do a clean install (even wiping your harddrive clean), do an archive & install and save all your settings from 10.2.8, that will leave a folder on your harddrive with old preferences etc on your harddrive that you later can throw away when you've found out if the upgrade was done safely, or the plain upgrade ontop of 10.2.8 (this is being what the install will first suggest, so if you want to do an archive & install or do a clean install you need to select that option by clicking a button in the installing process).

Phew, that was some long sentence!!! I hope it made sense. smile.gif

Yes, Panther can be installed on any computer that is compatible. The current operating system on the computer makes no difference.

Not that I'm planning this anytime soon (famous last words whistling.gif), but if you do the plain upgrade on top of 10.2.8, is it like a regular upgrade--where your bookmark/favorites, emails, and other preferences are maintained?  Thinking.gif

RobW,

Yes, if you do the upgrade on top of 10.2.xx all of the settings are maintained. If you choose the option to " archive and install" your preference settings,3rd party apps., emails etc. are transfered to the new system. Any thing that does not get transfered is placed into a folder that's labeled "previous system folder" which can be deleted once you determine that all is well with the 10.3 install.

What Bill said... both works perfectly actually. Just be aware that some installed 3rd party software can behave weird, especially if you have window shades or whatever haxie you prefer. Turn them off before your upgrade.
