Hi Thomas-
Thanks much for the info. I downloaded the latest firmware version for my router and used MacTFTP to upgrade the Linksys. I just paid the $12 shareware fee for MacTFTP-it was worth every penny.
Things seem to be working better. Part of the problem may have been that the MAC Address of the Ethernet card registered with Charter had not been cloned onto the router; that setting was probably lost when I was messing with the Linksys on an earlier occasion.
One note of caution to other Linksys users: it is very important that you ascertain which router version you have before downloading and upgrading the firmware. Using the improper firmware can cause serious problems.
The Linksys website is somewhat confusing to navigate and it isn't clear how to determine router versions. I had to call Linksys tech support and I was told if there is not a version number after the router model name on the label on the bottom of the router that it is a version 1 router. I would not have come to that conclusion from what I read on the Linksys website. I'm glad that I called first!
One piece of good news: the Linksys tech said that they are offering "limited" support to Mac owners, and a post at VersionTracker claimed that Linksys is thinking of adding Mac support because of the large number of routers sold to Macophiles.
If so, it is about time. My main complaint with Linksys has always been their apparent disregard for Mac owners and that a potential customer will not find out about the lack of Mac support until after buying a unit and trying to get help from Linksys.
At any rate, I am a Happy Camper! Hopefully this firmware update will solve my connection glitches...
