Keynote Crashes

I'm just learning how to use Keynote in OS10.2 using a dual G4/1.25GHz.

I launched it and clicked on THEME to see the different formats available. Theme started to load and then froze.
"Unexpected Error. Quit & Reopen Keynote"
The "gas bar" window shows and it is frozen.

Restarted Keynote. Same thing after I clicked on Theme.
Rebooted. No difference.

Any idea what gives?

As a desperate guess, are you using Keynote version 1.1.1 and OS 10.2.8? perhaps one or both need updating.

I'm just trying to learn OS10.2.6.
I believe Keynote is v1, so last night I tried to download Keynote 1.1, I received this message:

"You do not have an active modem, Airport or PPPOE Network Configuration"
Then it states QUIT, ADD, USE VPN."

At least that was working fine a week ago when I used OSX last.

Now I've got two glitches. I already hate OSX, cause I can't find anything.

So, please offer some good advice...
1. How do I get my dialup modem to work so I can download Keynote 1.1?
2. How can I get Keynote to work for me? Obviously I will see if the update makes any difference.

From what site did you try to DL v1.1? I just tested http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo...06261&mode=info and that semed to work OK, but then I am using Panther...

Also, v1.1 is a 30.5 MB DL. I am not certain your ISP will allow such DLs, ergo the notifications.

Perhaps you have a local MUG, Apple dealer, friend or such who can burn a CD for you. If not, contact me and I will send the updater to you.

FWIW, I strongly recommend you upgrade your OS to 10.2.8.

And finally, Repairing Permissions also fixes a great myriad of ills.

First of all, thank you for replying and your suggestions. You're all great people here at TS.
However, I have to rant a bit right about now.
I bought a new dual G4 three months ago with OSX. Wanted to be into it and working long before now. Was using and still am using my older G4/400 with OS9.1. It's the system that  works very stable for me.

It's been nothing but a pain to get OSX to work for me. Still can't find things. Still don't know how to move all my fonts over with Font Reserve. Had several glitches there.

Took days to figure out how to set up my PPP connections on the dual G4/1.25GHz. Finally got that working, but now some setting mst be off again cause it's not working! I can't get back on the Internet again to download anything on my dual G4.

Haven't got anywhere near to use Quark Xpress 3.32 or 4.11 yet, from my old G4 to my new one. Tried to reload my original QX 3.32 from image disk files cause the original is on floppy. I only have v4.11 upgrade on a CD. Have no idea how to do the image disk thing.

Haven't even started to figure out how to get my email stuff and bookmarks over from my old G4. I just dread the thought.

 I thought I would learn how to use Keynote cause I need if for a design presentation and it only works in OSX.
So first thing is it freezes! That screwed up a day trying to figure out the problem. Still don't know how to fix that. Suggestion to update v1.
So I tried to update it. Now I'm told it's too big of a file to download. And my dialup settings are screwed up. Don't know how that happened. Cause I've hardly used anything in OSX.
(There is no MUG in my small town. Or Mac ISP.  Or knowledgeable people who understand about fonts and Quark, etc.)

Suggestion now is to upgrade to 10.2.8. And read about Unix.  And learn about Repair Permissions!!!  And now Panther is out and I am still stumbling with Jaquar!!!!

Please, I'm not knocking anyone's attempt to help here. I appreciate that very much.

However, I am a businessman and designer. Like most people I am very busy with many projects on the go. And a family. How in the hell is one supposed to learn all this stuff and keep up? There has to be many people like me who are NOT totally committed Mac afficionados. Just frustrated as hell to get it all to work.

I just want to turn on the light switch to get some light. I don't want to learn how electricity works or get a physics degree before I turn on the switch.

If Apple and other computer companies would understand this basic principle. We don't need to be on the cutting edge all the time wasting my time, struggling with all this shit, posting questions in the middle of the night, cause things are crashing and we can't get our work done. And just when we begin to understand a little bit, the next version comes out and some supplier is asking for more money.

I could go on. But I guess you get the message.

Pendragon, you are on the far end of the bell curve. Probably in the top end minority who understand the inner workings of the Mac. and love it. It's so simple to you. But I am in the middle of the bell curve with so many others. And it is oh so tiring and frustrating trying to learn and keep up. Why can't Apple get the message? KISS!!

I'll have to review all your suggestions in the morning and see how to get something working in all this mess. Good night! :-)
