iPod Battery?
« on: January 04, 2004, 12:16:09 PM »
Though I don't own an iPod or have any desire to get one, I followed this link from another website and just wondered if the battery issue is true. Maybe something for those considering purchasing an iPod to think about.

All too true.  My (1st generation) ipod still works fine when plugged into the wall though.  No longer covered by warranty.

Battery life can be more (a lot more - or LESS).

Some is actual part failure. Others are due to use and abuse factors.

Here's another source for batteries with Step-by-Step photos of how to do it!

Actually not that bad, and you can see why Apple used a "waffer" battery - there's no extra room!

PS. Read the brothers message. "A  Message From the Neistat Brothers" at their site.

Bottom line, they bought a new iPod, and are happy with Apples new policies - so much for the consumer angst!

I thought this website was pretty good.

It covers most of the current issues of the iPod battery.

Personally, I believe that just because a couple of devices fail doesn't mean that the entire product is bad.
Power Macintosh G5 (Late 2004), 1.8 GHz, 1GB RAM, DVD/CD-RW combo, ATI Radeon 9600XT

My 2nd gen iPod (20GB) has full battery capacity as it had the day I got it (around 12 hrs with continous use). I did buy the AppleCare Protection plan for it just before the warranty run out so I'm covered another year now.

The 2nd generation iPods have a design fault and the problem is not the battery but the little ring that hooks up the headphones/remote control on the actual iPod. If that ring breaks the warranty is extended 3 months and you get it replaced with a new cover (not with a new iPod).

I was told this by a guy who works at Apple Support, he suggested that I should break the ring on purpouse if I wanted to extend my warranty. But my consious told me not to do that and instead I bought the APP for it and hope it will work just fine for the rest of the period.
