iMovie 3 & keynote
« on: February 01, 2003, 12:06:00 PM »
iMac G4 flatpanel 700-256 mb ram.

Downloaded iMovie 3 and iPhoto 2 as well as iTunes 3.  iMove is slooooow, sluggish and interesting, but I think I'm going back to iMovie 2 where it worked faster and better than the newer version.  Keynote gets the same way, but not as bad as iMovie 3.

When Apple said you need at least 256 mb ram to run iMovie 3 and Keynote, does that mean the programs themselves require 256 mb ram per program, I hope not.

Any input on the iMove 3 and Keynote appreciated.
Thanx

It is slow, but it's worth it.  I like being able to pan photographs.

I scarcely touch iMovie, but my daughter does, so I installed iMovie 3 to see how she likes it come the weekend.
It was so darned slow at first that it quite worried me!  Repairing permissions helped on my G4 eMac 700 mHz (768 MB RAM).
Looking further, I found a raft of issues with an apparently rather buggy release discussed in several places, including
 MacInTouch.
We'll see what my daughter makes of it, but if anybody's having bad slowdowns, one fellow on that page I've linked to says he's put iMovie 3 and iMovie 2.1.2 on the same machine.
I can confirm his find that the two apps appear to have their own sets of preference files.

I haven't had a chance to really use it yet, but I tried the Ken Burns Effect and it doesn't work on my machine...it renders the effect and then "poof!" the image dissappears, I end up with a blank clip.

You think Apple rushed some of these (iMovie, Keynote)...?

Maybe so, Karl.
They already delayed them after a fanfare. And there was also that malicious rumour going around that they were going to charge for the lot, then thought better of it and put iPhoto and iMovie into Software Update in the wake of the storm over .Mac accounts.
