HELP W/ \'CARBON COPY CLONER\', PLEASE!!!
« on: March 16, 2003, 07:00:00 PM »
I just installed a new WD HD, formatted & partitioned it, did a 'repair permissions' and restarted.

Am attempting to 'Clone' my X 'start-up' partition to the new drive but when asked to select a 'Source Disk' and a 'Target Disk', there are no options listed.  'Source Disk' does have an alternative 'Startup Disk' but that's it.  I did click on the lock to enter my password and clicked on 'Clone'--all I got was a drop-down message to choose the two aforementioned Disks.

Can someone please tell me how I get my partitions to appear when I click on those two menus.  I've read all the info in the help menu as well as the "Readme" file but nowhere is this problem addressed.  BTW, all the partitions appear on my desktop.  The source is my FW drive that was formatted and partitioned using Disk Setup so that shouldn't be the problem.  Am clueless      and have no idea where to go from here--HELP, PLEASE!!!

PS:  I did start up from my X partition--is that a problem?

Just to make sure, what version of Carbon Copy Cloner are you using? The latest version is 2.1.2.

I've had no problems choosing the partition to be copied and one partition to copy it to.

Have you made sure there's enough space on the target disk to hold the whole copy? (not that I think it matter since you can divide it into several partitions as well).
/Petra

Petra and Gmann,

You are so right--I'm really embarrassed!!      Should have thought to check out the versions from the 'getgo'.  Guess I 'assumed' that it was 'current' because it hadn't been that long ago that I dl'd it.  One should never 'assume'!

Anyway, I dl'd it and it worked perfectly except... it left my original startup drive unmountable/unusable.  Have no clue what happened but even the 'disk repair utility' couldn't fix it.  It said it was repaired but when I did a 'Verify', the message said it needed to be repaired.  Tried that routine a few times with the same results but it never mounted.  Thank heavens the new drive/startup partition is working just fine... so I'm happy!!

Thanks to both of you for your expertise and input--didn't go for the new 'beta' version; stayed with 2.1.2.  Perhaps the 'beta' wouldn't have messed up the old drive???   Hope 'Desktop Resetter' does an X version soon--

sunset. Don't worry about the Beta part. Use the latest for your version.

Can you run Disk First Aid on your new Drive for the old one?

Did you Click on the old Hard Drive Icon to show Systems?

Why not use CCC to copy back the working copy to your original harddrive?

Kelly, that's what I did do when I tried to repair it, if I understand your suggestion correctly???

Petra, because that drive/partition wasn't mountable, I couldn't copy back to it  =(  but...  I did wipe that whole drive and have all my partitions the way I want them--will be 'backing up' the X boot partition ASAP.

Thanks, everyone, for your help/input!!  Time to go bowling!!

You don't want to know, Jennie--neither brooklyn nor pocket hits carried        Got a couple nice splits but the strikes eluded me.  It's been that way the last 3 weeks--might as well have stayed home!!

How about you??  Good luck on your 200!!
