PC TurboTax users beware

Seems as though Intuit has taken a page from MicroSoft and enabled a "gotcha" with their tax software so it can only be used on one computer. The Mac version isn't affected... this year.

I have been reading about this from several sources.  I have already bought and used Turbotax for mac again this year.  I have used Turbotax (or Macintax)  every year since 1995.  So far this does not affect mac users, but I have decided that I have bought my last Intuit product.  I understand their desire to protect their software, however, I do not respect their right to tell me how many times I can use the product.  It would be like Apple telling me that I can only create one document in Appleworks.  In the past, I have done my own Tax return as well as my Mother's and Sister's.  I do not support Intuit's right to limit this.  If they choose to, I will choose to not buy their product at all.  I also find the arrogance expressed by Intuit in this matter to be apalling.  The above article suggests that this policy has not, and will not affect sales of the product this year. --- Of course not... most people won't know about it until they buy it.  But... wait til next year.  I bet Kiplinger sells a lot more copies of Tax Cut next year.

This year the IRS has partnered with a bunch of software/tax prep firms to provide FREE online tax preparation. All you pay for is the filing ($7.95 with TaxAct.com, for federal or state) - less than you would pay for most of the software. Definitely worth looking into.

I've used TurboTax (MacInTax) for years, and it's always irked me that the Mac version is ALWAYS more expensive than the Windoze version. Even considered getting the Windoze version this year, since I now have a PC in the stable...until I found out about the restrictive licensing.

$16 for online filing sounds pretty good against either $40 for TaxCut or $50 for TurboTax. I'm willing to pay for the convenience and speed of online filing...to a point. After which, pencil and calculator start looking a lot more attractive again!

I know at least one TS member used an online service last year and seemed happy with it. Anyone else?

Here is the latest from Walter Mossberg,,,,The Latest
I use Turbo Tax on my Mac and have been doing so for years, back when it was called Mac-in-Tax.   It could be getting time to switch to Tax Cut.
