DIMM installation sequence in 9500
« on: March 25, 2003, 10:42:00 AM »
Sorry,

This may not need a new posting - but, I'm still finding my way round this site.

Re: my earlier posting about additional memory Dimms in my 9500.

Is there a preferred hierachy which I should follow or, should I simply replace the 8MB DIMMS at A4 and B4 with the 128MB units?

Is there a hierarchical sequence which the main processor uses?

Best wishes

David L.

Hi David. Seems to me there was info in your earlier thread.

In any case. Download this and see what it says for your machine.

It could be just as you conjecture.

Some of the earlier PowerMacs (clones in particular) had a RAM slot that was "proprietary" meaning there had to be a chip in that slot regardless of how much RAM was in the entire machine. In a few machines with tight quarters, heat might have been an issue and placing stronger chips in sensitive areas created problems. (Some of the older PowerBooks that were not originally designed for large chips have heat problems if the lower slot contains a large chip).

These situations were not typical and shouldn't apply to your machine.
