Recipients unable to open a Word attachment
« on: March 25, 2003, 01:02:00 PM »
Hi,
For several years I have rgularly sent an email with a Word 98 attachment (in Outlook Express 5.01) to a group of 34 people. They are Wintel users. I added the extension .doc and encoded for Windows (base 64/MIME), no compression.
They all could open the attachment.
It became necessary to add 2 more names to the group. Neither of the new addressees could open the attachment.
Attempted repeats failed too.
I extracted the 2 newcomers from the larger group, put them into a 2-person group and re-tried. Same problem.
Meanwhile the people in the original group continue to have no problem.
Can somebody point me to a possible solution, please?

PPC 8500-Power PC G3 processor-556 MHz-304 MB RAM

Thanks in advance

What email program are the two newcomers using?

Do the newcomers own a copy of Microsoft Word?
A whole lot about me: www.xeromag.com/franklin.html

I have had the same problem,  if they have an older version of word they can't open newer version.  Of course, as Tacit said if they don't have Word...

I have Word 2001, and I save all docs in 6.0/95.  Set your prefs in Word, and it will automatically do this every time, and also add " .doc"
