In addition to picking up a HdD you might also ask Tom what he has for additional ram sticks (you have 4 slots and they must be added in equal pairs - although you can have two differant equal pairs).  If your second grader is like my grandson was at that age, you'll need more than the 8mb that's on board for games and such.
