QuickTime Pro Editing

I have QT Pro 6.1. I have never done editing but thought I would attempt to connect two demo movies downloaded off the Internet. Supposedly I am suppose to be able to open one of the movies, choose Select All from the Edit menu, Copy then Paste in the other movie.

Problem is that all of the above mentioned menu selections are greyed out. What am I missing? The help files lead me to no conclusion.

Are you sure you've activated the Pro feature?  

If you have, it may not be in a Editable Format.

Try Exporting it in another Format and then edit.

The Pro version is registered with number entered etc. and I am able to edit some of my personal video just not this stuff I downloaded from the Internet.

Didn't want to start another topic for a simple (I hope) question:

What is the best way to increase the viewing FPS of a movie in QT Player?

I've got its memory set to about 50MB. VM is at 385MB. Movie info says it is recorded at ~29FPS but it shows at only ~10, so it's pretty choppy.    

May try using a minimum System tomorrow. OS 9.1, iMac DV/400, 384MB, no programs running except QT Player 5.0.2 (but I notice that some extensions are still V 4.x).

Will QT 6 help?

Frame Rate wii always vary with size ABD.  

It may be 30 FPS at 320 x 240 or whatever but much slower at a larger resolution.

Not a function of a lot more memory to just play it.

What Video Card?

Is this something you made, or store bought?

Single layer movies (movies with both video and audio in the same track) aren't editable in QT. Things like MPG files and AVI files may not be editable. It's got nothing to do with your version or sytem. QT just doesn't edit single layer movies.

I only have the standard iMac DV 'card' (AP says it's an 'ATY[?] Rage 128k, VRAM: 8MB). I reduced the resolution back to 800 x 600 and reduced colors to 1,000's. At one point I did see the frame rate increase to 14, but that's still less than half the files stated rate. This is a downloaded file, shows ".mov" extension. If double-clicked it opens QT Player without a screen, just the colapsed player window. Must use the "Open..." command to actually play the movie.

I'm not trying to edit the file, misunderstanding is my fault for using this existing thread. But I was hoping for better playback as my Pastor asked me to possibly show them at a service. Maybe I can get some user group friend to loan me a TiBook!

You are probably correct in that it may be a 'single layer' movie. I would just be happy to get it to play without skips! I guess I need to face the fact that this 400MHz machine can't hack it!            

BTW, these were HUMONGOUS files, one is 363MB, the other is 408MB. It may be better to try using the smaller MPEG files, but I suspect I will lose the resolution. And when shown full screen they will probably be very pixelated. Oh well...

(later) The MPEG files aren't that bad at full screen.     And they don't have the skips, even at 1024 x 768 and millions of colors (actually those settings may even help them look better). So I guess I'll have to go with that.

I suppose the real problem is that the large files were supposed to be 'broadcast quality' which would be 30FPS and that is just too much for this Mac, at least to handle. The images are great, but the skipping and sputtering are simply unusable for viewing...too bad...for me!
