DVD "deck" played through Mac problem
« on: March 31, 2003, 02:48:00 PM »
I think I know the answer, but just in case...

Anyway, I bought a new Samsung DVD "deck", that is, a machine meant to plug into a TV.

However, I'm NOT.

I'm connecting the S-Video to my Mac 7500 G3's "video port" and viewing it on my 19" monitor.

Using the old "Apple Video Player" is how I watch the movies.

One problem.

The picture goes lighter and darker.

My fear is that it is the player is doing a "copywrite" protection whammy on it, thinking I've plugged into a VCR to record the movie.

Or do ALL DVD players go light and dark, even on regular TVs?

Some are more severe than others though.

Oh, my VHS "deck" works perfectly.

Thanks

You guessed right.  The Macrovision copy protection will not let you do what you are attempting.  There are devices you can buy to strip the macrovision if you really want to go to that trouble.... I would just install a dvdRom on my mac if I were you.
