Paddy,

Always take anything I say with a 'smile' even when U don't include one!

One of the few things I have managed to do is use a function in BBEdit to add  date/time stamp on each page. It is a minor setup and I am not using that capability to its fullest. Of course, you may want that 'change' date to show on the whole site rather than reflect changes to only the 'changed' page. But that would also be easy in BBEdit as it has an amzing Find/Replace function. I guess what I am saying is don't be afraid of losing anything should you decide to try 'hand-coding' (at least with BBEdit!).

There is at least one site that can send you views of what you site looks like in about 10 different browsers. I'll ty to get that URL today (if someone doesn't beat me to it!). But even that may just raise your frustration level. As you must know, the 'same' browser on a different platform will show different displays!     I don't see this getting much better in the future, and that is a real shame, IMHO.

Jim, don't worry about the site showing all the views in different browsers for me - though Enzo might find it useful. I have the waterfront just about covered in that regard (ok, so I don't have a LINUX box...yet   )

Diana, after reading the first of Enzo's tutorials on SSI, I came to the conclusion that a phone call to MecNet was in order today. Just got off the phone and they said that PHP should be enabled on that server, so I'm good to go.     It's been something I'd been wanting to try for a while, but hadn't had the opportunity (or a little push in the right direction    ) to give it a whirl.

As always, the TS Academy comes through!

OK, Paddy, now we can start asking you and Diana questions about PHP!      I have yet to even touch that process but it sure looks interesting and is highly praised. Hopefully, it will be less 'touchy' than CSS!

Hi guys,
Just back from hols.

Anyway, i agree that PHP is a better option that SSI, easier on the server and you can do so much more with PHP.
Unfortunatly there's some problem with my host account, simple php includes work but if I try to use any of the "template systems" I just get server errors.
So i'm sticking with SSI.
Also, SSI is simple! Less taxing on the brain! :-)

Jim C, if you find that URL i'd appreciate if you could post it.

Sorry for the delay!

I think this is the Screen Shot service I had seen some where. It's not free, but you can register for a demo as often as you have e-mail addresses!      Looks like that 'demo' period is not much more than 6 hours, BTW.

And to continue the story a bit - I did call MecNet as noted - but the server setup required that all my pages end in PHP. Not so good...our pages turn up in search engines and people here in town and in the school system have them all bookmarked with the .html ending. Hmmm. Diana to the rescue - she suggested in an email that I call MecNet and ask them if they would set up the server to parse our .html pages for PHP. As usual, they were most accomodating and we now have our first PHP script for date page modified, on our district pages. Have to go round and change all the other ones on the other sites - but it's a start!

And many thanks to Diana - both for the script and for the suggestions! As I warned her...she may have created a monster! Now I'm really curious to see what I can do!
