G-4 ,933, os 9.2.2. My internal modem is seldom above 28kbs.When it is it's only 32kbs. Tried both v90, and v34. No change. My old 6500 with external modem is mostly 34 to 48 kbs. How do i fix! anybody know?. Thanks Again.

I have been using net monitor. In its preferences you can set the connection speed that you will accept and the number of times to retry. It is free to try for a very short period or $6.95 for the key.
ie I use the Supra 56k v90 modem script.

28kbs is my norm. I've found when it kicks in at 32kbs sometimes pages actually take longer to load.

Thanks for the reply's. I really did 'nt see any loss of speed, but thought faster was better. Downloads seem to be the same also.

If both of the computers are connected via the exact same plug (swap) and you still get way differing speeds then I'd look to the internal modem, Init strings and try different protocols.

However, note that if you have two analog connections anywhere along the route from your computer to the ISP's server you will be maxed out at 32/33 period. So analyze your route from each computer to the outside phone box for additional stops along the way.

I know it's not practical in your case, but after my phone company told me the reason I didn't get higher speeds was at my end, I took my PB outside and hooked it up at the junction box on the side of the house. Since there was nothing else between my puter and the server it proved they still had an analog connection somewhere betwixt here and there. Not my fault afterall. Nyah, nyah.

I'm thinking of starting up a protest for all of us users who are paying the same money to connect per month but are doomed to slower speeds by the ISP's (ATT) servers. Why should we be charged the same as those who have upgraded phone lines? Right? Right? OK , all of you who agree with me...

Krissel: thanks for the reply. I don't quite understand. 6500 Ext modem 45bps mostly, 933 28bps mostly. ihd heard apples internal is not as good. On the 6500 when i went from OS8.5 to OS8.6 they suggested going to a external Modem. I wonder if that is the case with 933 on Os9.2.2?.

Hey Kruser, I have used a Apple 56k from OS 8.1 through OS 10 beta, and the OS never phased it one bit, on my machine. I think the Apple Modems are bullet proof.

My average is about 38k but on early mornings 4am est when the west coast goes to sleep, I can get downloads past 56k.

Whoops, I use earthlink’s modem script, which could have some bearing on my success, I suspect.
