IMPORTANT NOTICE ABOUT TEST BOARD
« on: April 09, 2003, 01:51:00 AM »
Sorry to shout but I really messed up big time.

In trying to work with the files of one of the themes the URL connection to the board was lost. Our empress (Jennie) is probably sleeping and has no idea I screwed up.

I don't know the procedure for reestablishing the link to the php board so until she wakes up (and swears at me, a lot) the test forum will be unreachable.

Mea culpa, mea culpa, mea culpa...

Hi Kriss.. Can't speak for Jennie, but I find it's so much easier to forgive someone who admits they messed up - for one thing, they are already feeling pretty angry with themselves (been there...). Many years ago someone wise (might have been my dad) said: "Show me a person who says they have never made a mistake, and I'll show you a liar."

Good luck with Jennie....

Aw, Jennie is easy (not cheap, mind you, but easy)

Give me a bit of time, I'm not sure what happened, but I'll figure it out.  Where is that help manual.......?
Do not fear your enemies.  The worse they can do is kill you.  Do not fear friends.  At worst, they may betray you.
Fear those who do not care; they neither kill nor betray, but betrayal and murder exist because of their silent consent.

I guess you fixed the problem already. I get the new board just fine, changed to the 'silver' skin yesterday. Worked fine then, same now.

So should I say 'Thanks!"? Why not! One of the most underused words in the language, IMHO.

Could not agree more!  While thanks alone may be poor payment for the wonderful work being done by a few on this board for the benefit of all, I would like to add my Thanks.

At 4 pm 4/9/03 I reconfigured some PHPBB options, but see no significant difference on my end. If someone has a problem, or notices a change in Appalachia, please let Me/Us know?

Thanks......

OOOOPPPS     Knew we forgot something...... It's fixed now.  We don't know exactly what caused it, but Diana saved our bacon.  There was a backup that I had forgotten, Diana copied it from it from the "hideaway" and it worked!

So....resume playing!

What is the saying about learning from your mistakes???

Well, I did it again this evening...er, morning? Anyway, I tried to change the header file for the Appalachia theme to include a background and the same problem started to occur. The pages only partially loaded. This time I didn't let it escalate to losing the whole board as I knew what the next step would surely bring.

After a couple hours of testing and comparing files for any inconsistencies I think I have found the answer as to why I was able to do this a couple days ago but encountered so much trouble yesterday and today.

The files I adapted yesterday were taken from the theme folder on the server, opened in BBEdit, saved and uploaded. But they weren't accepted once navigating the forum with the browser, in particular the header file.  So I totally removed the entire folder and reloaded the original folder and back came the basic style but no headers. This time I opened the header file from the original folder instead of downloading, added the changes and uploaded. Voila!!!

Seems as though downloading the file via ftp and opening and saving it changes the file enough so it is not recognized when returned. I even tried different text formats but for some reason only working on the original file works.

----------On the other board:

In your Profile you will notice that there is a choice of Styles. At present we have four themes listed, subsilver, fiapple, zonesilver and Appalachia. The first is as it comes with the BB software, the last I have altered to color coordinate better with TS. It also has visited links color, the welcome header and some other changes. The others are a work in progress, basically usable as they are. but need headers, footers and some color  tweaking.

Enjoy!  I'm going to BED!!!
