Difficulties with iPhoto 2.0, also Software Update
« on: February 07, 2003, 08:52:00 AM »
Two unrelated issues .... I downloaded and installed iPhoto 2.0 about 10 days ago, and haven't had a chance to play with it. Today I decided I had time.  When I attempt to launch it, either from the dock or from the Apps. folder, it bounces about 4 times then disappears.  It is definitely in the folder, but just won't launch.

So I downloaded again and tried to reinstall ..... get a message saying that I already have a newer version installed, and the installer won't update over it.  I'm on cable, and the d/l still took 40 minutes! I've never had anything take that long!

What is the problem here?  I've not trashed any prefs or anything .... I'm fearful of what will happen!

***Edited to add .... at some point last week, I used the suggestion of removing some of the languages via Get Info.  I don't know whether this would have any bearing on the problem, or not.

Second difficulty is with  Software Update not logging updates.  I d/l'ed Update Fixer, but it won't run for me .... I get a message about the folder being unreadable and am not able to put in my password at the prompt.  As suggested on the website, I've got US English , but I've always had it that way.  Any suggestions?

I'm running 10.2.3 on an iMac with 384 mb memory.

Audone, I have no good counsel re iTunes other than your repairing permissions and running DFA. If you have not already done so, it certainly is worth a try before more drastic measures are taken and it can't hurt.

Now, re the DL update Log. I have not used "Update Fixer", but using the Apple recommended procedure from the Knowledge Base Document #107136 fixed that problem for me. So I strongly recommend you give that a go.

In order to install iPhoto again, you'll have to trash the Receipt for the first install. It's here;

library>receipts

just trash it along with the iPhoto application and also it's preference file here;

user>library>preference

(com.apple.iPhoto.plist)

Harv .... I can not find that Knowledge Base article on Apple's site.  It tells me it doesn't exist ...       Could you please point me in the right direction?  Thanks!

bob ... will do as suggested and let you know if all is well!

Harv .... I found the article and did as advised.  Now I hope it will work properly.  Thanks!

bob ... Before trashing and reinstalling, I did a Get Info on iPhoto.  Under languages, there were only 2 (the ones I wanted), but neither were chosen.  I checked English and sure enough .... it launches just fine!

Thanks!
