Foreign File Access bombs 9.1

Just got round to upgrading from OS9 to 9.1 on one of my 7600s.(Still on 8.6 on the other, if it aint broke...    )

Immediately bombs after extensions/control panels load, clock appears top right, and the machine freezes with an empty dialogue box mid screen.
Went through the extensions and turned out to be foreign file access. All other extentions off except this, it still bombs.

Only abnormal thing with the machine is that I've used FWB Hard Disk Toolkit 4.0 to initialise the drives.

Any advice appreciated so I can watch VCDs again    

Oh, and Macbench 5 bombs also now! weird.

7600 / XLR8 400MHz G4 zif in zif carrier / 256MB / 50gig Ultra2 LVD+2gig UW / Atto Ultra2 scsi card / 16MB Voodoo 3 3000.

I don't know if knowing that Extension is a problem helps.  

Have you checked with a Disk Utility?

You might want to check for other Voodoo drivers.

FWIW. I got rid of MacBench.

It seemed to be a prime culprit with the OS 8.6 Font Bug.

Should have mentioned, I only installed the Voodoo 3 yesterday, I upgraded to 9.1 a week or so ago, so the problem is definitely pre video drivers.

I'll have a run through with Disk Warrior and Norton tonight and see if they unearth anything.

Couple questions:
Do you have any third party removeable drives that might have conflicting extensions?
Also, do you have anything in your startup items folder?

Fixed a few minor problems with Norton but no joy with FFA afterwards.

K- Only Launcher in Startup. No removeable drives.

Its not a big deal really, just not able to read CDs burned on a PC.

What does anybody think about trying to go all the way, up to 9.2.2 using OS9 Helper. Worth a try, or am I clutching at straws hoping this will fix the problem along the way.
Has anyone done this with any of their unsupported machines?

Iain, I think it's definitely worth a try. How could it hurt? The only thing is that an upgrade might not replace the basic extensions if older versions are not found. So if that didn't work, my next step would be a clean install, but definitely not from the same disk as your 9.1 installation.

IMO, the 3rd-party disk drivers are the Prime Suspect.
