I'm using Entourage and I get commas when an apostrophe is appropriate and two commas when it is supposed to be a quotation.

Is there anything I can do to correct this from my end?

Have you checked your keyboard preferences?  Tried changing the font you're using in Entourage?

Yes, I've experimented with several fonts including Verdana which I thought was a PC friendly font.

When I go to System Prefs and the keyboard prefs in particular I don't see anything there that applies to this.

Hi Rick,

I use Entourage and haven't had that problem. But see if  this thread/posting at the support forum at  Mactopia is helpful.

Nothing to do with your Keyboard settings I think.

Probably a "Smart Quotes" thing.

"41) Is there any way to turn off curly quotes (aka smart quotes) when typing text in HTML mode? The curly quotes turn out to be commas (,) when the email msg is displayed on non-Mac users in our office.

Entourage X: Tools/AutoCorrect/AutoFormat/ Replace smart quotes with straight quotes.
Entourage 2001: Tools>AutoCorrect>AutoFormat As You Type>Replace as you type> and uncheck “’Straight quotes’ with ‘Smart quotes’.”

http://www.entourage.mvps.org/faq/faqs.html

Or it could be "Character Set" which would require tacit to explain.

I investigated the Mactopia thread and it makes sense to change the Default Fonts language to "Western European (Windows)" but alas that choice is not present. It was when I used Outlook Express in 9.2.

And changing the setting in Tools: Autocorrect about 'straight quotes and smart quotes' seems to apply only to my typing not incoming email.
