OT: Daisy Red Ryder bb gun info needed
« on: April 25, 2003, 08:08:00 PM »
Hello.

The following is a querry I posted at the daisy.com Q&A board, but somehow I think I might get an answer faster here. I mean, once I got an answer on how to butcher rabbits back at NoWonder! I have great confidence that Mac gearheads know lots of stuff about lots of stuff. So here goes, and the first person who admonishes me that I'll shoot my eye out has to go lick a frozen pole, if you can find one. I double dog dare you

I have recently acquired a Model 1938B Red Ryder 60th Anniversary bb gun. I have glued the cracked stock, but I don't know what other maintenance needs I should tend to. I have no documentation for this arm. There doesn't seem to be any external rust, and the pump handle/trigger guard seems to have been oiled or greased. There is a small hole in the barrel labeled "oil here", but I don't know what kind of oil, how much, and how often. Thank you in advance for any advice.

Edited to get rid of a profile tag. Where the heck did that come from?

Careful, you'll shoot your eye out. Got any raspberry flavored frozen poles?

Andrew,

That 'oil here' hole keeps the gasket on the plunger soft and plyable so as to make a good seal as it slides back and forth, like on a bicycle pump.  Very light machine oil should be used, or sewing machine oil if you have or can find it.  Use it just often enought to keep the plunger plyable 3-6 months or a 1000 shots which ever comes first.

Can remamber going on a number of 'sputzy' hunts with one of  those and also getting shot in the A$$ with one in the hands of my younger brother

There!

What did I tell you? An answer here within about half an hour! Mac people know lots of stuff about lots of stuff. And there's no reply yet on the Daisy forum.

Thanks.
