Appleworks update
« on: April 26, 2003, 11:23:00 PM »
Just downloaded the 6.2.7 update. Will not install on my HD: it doesn't recognize that I have Appleworks, says it can't find it, though it's clearly on the path indicated ("10.2.5 >applications>appleworks 6"). Hmm.

What's the version...6.2.4?

Repair permissions

Move the AppleWorks 6 folder to a different partition or drive and try again.

It's version 6.2.2 ... so, will I need to upgrade to 6.2.4 before going to 6.2.7?

I'm not sure...I asked because I was on 6.2.4 and it worked flawlessly. It might be worth a shot, but I would think it would have worked with 6.2.2.

Well, downloaded 6.2.4. Same result: Doesn't recognize that I have 6.2.2. Oh well, I can live with what I've got.

Veeeeerrrrry strange!  Yesterday, I had downloaded and run the Appleworks updater on the Jaguar side of the hard drive, and it ran just fine.  This morning, I went over to the 9.2.2 side, and fired up Appleworks, to find that I had version 6.2.3, according to the splash screen, so I tried to run the updater, and it told me that I didn't have the right permissions. . .On 9.2?  Clicked on the app icon, and asked for "info", and sure enough, it, too, told me that I version 6.2.3, so I went back over to the Jag side to run the updater, but this time, I pointed the it to the 9.2 side of the hard drive, and ran it, and restarted 9.2.  The splash screen, when I fired up Appleworks STILL told me that I had version 6.2.3, but when I clicked on the app icon, and asked for info, this time, it told me that I had version 6.2.5.  So maybe some of you  have actually been updated, and just don't know it!

According to the READ ME file...

quote:

Important Information About the AppleWorks 6.2.7 Updater

Thank you for investing in Apple software. Apple periodically releases new versions of software to add features, correct performance issues, or respond to customer requests.

This update replaces any North American English version of AppleWorks for Macintosh 6.0 or later with the North American English version of AppleWorks 6.2.7 for Mac OS X 10.1 or later and AppleWorks 6.2.5 for Mac OS 8.1 through 9.x. (AppleWorks 6.2.7 for Mac OS X 10.1 or later and AppleWorks 6.2.5 for Mac OS 8.1 through 9.x have a common feature set but are optimized for the appropriate operating system).
If you previously installed AppleWorks 6 on your computer using the custom installation option, choosing only the "AppleWorks 6 application" and omitted the writing tools, re-run the installer, choose Custom Install once again, and choose to install the writing tools. This will ensure the AppleWorks 6.2.7 updater will perform properly.

sukukodo, reinstall AppleWorks 6 and see if you can update. Also run a Repair Permissions after the reinstall.

beacher, I haven't booted into 9, so I have no idea if it updated to 6.2.5, but I only have one copy of AW installed, so I'd presume it did.

It worked! Thanks, KPS     ... deleted what I had, re-installed AW6 from the disc and ran the updater with no problems.
