iTunes playback problemo

Okay.  I think I have always had this problem, however I just noticed it a week or so ago.  I've been trying to figure out a fix for it, but can't.  I have noticed that playback in iTunes is very quiet.  I have to turn my speakers up higher just to listen to my music softly.  Is there a fix for this?  Are all my MP3s now encoded to play quieter if I were to use another MP3 player?  I have iTunes 4 and Jag.

I had a similar experience with some CDs I ripped. The volume was way down, others imported with better volume levels. Can't explain it. Imports were set for the same quality.

As far as your issue is concerned, have a look in Preferences-->Effects-->Sound Check. I think the box is checked by default, see what happens when you un-check it.

I'm not sure how good the quality of this trick is, but it could be worth a try:

1. Mark all your tunes in the library.
2. Then ctrl-click to get a popup menu.
3. Select Info...
4. Click Yes on the message asking if you want to edit the info on all images.
5. Then you have a volume slider to adjust the volume.

(You could always try on one song first, to see the quality).

Dreambird, you would think he would have posted on TS by now.  Some people never learn.

Apparently the fluctuation in volume problem is a bug of some sort in iTunes v4.0.

Apple told to me keep the sound-check box checked (with a different problem, though).
So I don't know if that will help.

I think the guy in the discussion at Apple has the same problem I had with my PM G4 early this year. It was a hardware problem (my G4's motherboard was replaced).

just to make sure, (although I am sure you already did that     ) did you try to set the volume in iTunes to the max (not the system volume)?

Today's iTunes Report.  

"I think I've identified the source of the iTunes 4 volume  fluctuations reported by Jennifer Scott and Gerry Moravec. It seems to  be the Sound Enhancer (in the "Effects" pane of the iTunes prefs).  Turning it off made the variation go away for me. And turning it on  again brings the problem right back. I just submitted my bug report to  Apple. Hopefully they fix this soon, because in iTunes 3 the Sound  Enhancer actually did make things sound better for me! "

But i do have those fluctuations to and since rerouting the EPS conducts to the main core system didn't worked... i can try this iTunes thing
