Switch from 9.x to 10.2.5-Have I got trouble!
« on: May 05, 2003, 11:24:00 PM »
Well, I took the big step and switched from OS 9.2.2 to OS 10.2.5. In doing so, I ran OS 10.2.4 for a while and then generated OS 10.2.5 on a new partition while keeping OS 10.2.4.

Everything went very smoothly BUT I can't get my laser printer to work. The printer is a GCC Elite 21 N (Duplex).
GCC uses Apple's Print Center and appropriate laser printer drivers. The printer communicates via EtherTalk (ApleTalk enabled) to my in house router.

lWhat happens is when I go to print, the print monitor shows that I am printing (the document has 6 sections, each section printing separately). However, a message comes up saying Print File Empty!! That is the system prepares and sends the data yet it never reaches the spooler so the printewr lays there like a malevolent beast just blinking, "Ready". I tried printing several different documents Word, Excell, and TexEdit - still no output.

The kicker is that the printer prints the document with any problem in both 0.2.2 and 10.2.4. So I talked to GCC and they had no clue, saying other GCC customers had no problem with 10.2.5 and GCC used all of Apple's printer software. Then, I talked to Apple which basically said it's not our problem, it's the vendor's issue.

So, I first reloaded all the GCC software that came with the printer (including the Apple stuff) - no joy! Then,
I repaired permissions - no joy! Then, I repaired partitions, again - again, no joy!

Then, I realized why should I deal withe amatures at GCC and Apple, so here I am asking for help from the TS pros

Does anybody have any thoughts or suggestions as to a solution or a cause?

Thanks for bearing with me through this long dissertation.

Mama, Andrew MacKenzie had great success with his printer problem thanks to Print Center Repair.

When you open Print Center see if there are any Jobs listed and if there are delete them.
You can also try deleting the printer forom the Printer list, log out, log back in, open Print Center and reselect the printer.
