making PDF w/hyperlinks?

I want to make a PDF which would contain a whole bunch of live hyperlinks to URLs to distribute to a class.

I thought I could create the document in Appleworks and print it as a PDF in OS X. When I do that the links look like hyperlinks (they are highlighted in blue) but they do not launch my browser to go to that site.

I am trying to do this with Acrobat Reader only, since I don't need to do this enough to pay for the full version of Acrobat.

I tried in TexEdit as well.

There must be a way to do this. What am I missing? I've spent a lot of time in Help and online at various Adobe sites without finding an answer.

I did some looking around as well.
It seems the only way to make a pdf with hyperlinks is to have the full Acrobat version from Adobe.

Just a thought - would distributing your page of hyperlinks work if you saved the file in Appleworks as an html file? The html file would probably be smaller than a pdf file and it would be cross platform as well. In addition, your students would already have their browser open to view this file, so all they would have to do is click on the link to open a new window.

I had been thinking of just using the Appleworks document, but I was worried about the Windows-challenged users.
