Tonight is not movie night
« on: May 26, 2006, 03:20:39 PM »
am having trouble activating DVD films, when I pop them into either of the superdrives (both Pioneer) the disk shows up on the desktop. I thought that Real Player or DivX would kickstart the movie but no.
On double clicking the icon all that does is open up the DVD disk as though it were a folder and shows two folders one is named Audio_TS and the other Video_TS.
When Audio is opened it is shown as empty whereas Video shows a mixture  of  files with endings of .BUP .IFO .VOB
These are genuine DVD films which (dare I say it) play normally on my PC with Real Player or Windows Media Player.
I am trying VERY hard to wean myself away from my PC as much as possible and this is not helping.
I await the TS calvalry.

Hi George: Not so much the cavalry as the chap who follows the horses with a bucket.... However, go to the Apple drop-down menu, click on System Preferences and make sure "When you insert a video DVD..." is set to "Open DVD Player". If it's not that, then you WILL have to wait for the cavalry... smile.gif

Windows Media Player? Go the the bathroom NOW and wash your mouth out with soap biggrin.gif

George -

What models are your Macs?

It's posssible that they do NOT have DVD drives, which would certainly 'splain their inability to read / play commercial DVD discs....

Thanks Neil,
no need of the cavalry.
It's always the same you fit something new (Pioneer 111d ) change setting etc., and bingo somewhere along the line something has gone pear shaped.
All is well now, (till I get the urge to tinker)
