Leap-frog! A wild game?
« on: May 29, 2006, 03:37:02 PM »
I've been checking that list since I discovered it. Following the switch, I reported that the list had been jumbled up a bit. I haven't tried to memorize the order nor have I jotted it down, but today I did notice....

Paddy has jumped from 9th or 10th to 2nd overnight. I wonder how that happened? That would be several hundred, if not a few thousand posts!!!

Unsure of the behind-the-scenes machinations, but I lost several thousand posts in my tally w/ the switchover to the new version or the new site host.

PS - I see that a guesstimate of my previous number has been re-instated ...

Ah ha! As I said, I didn't memorize the list, but it would appear that the same was not done for Jennie, at least. I'm sure it wasn't done for my total. Perhaps it is a work in progress, but where to draw the line??? Obviously, it matters little, other than being an acurate historical record of an insignificant statistic.

kelly, as I said...

It's just an observation, not a complaint. smile.gif
But to answer your (rhetorical) question, the slowness on the old server was beginning to be inconvenient for me at this hour, and the noon hour, but otherwise I just enjoy it here so much that it really didn't bother me.

krisssel, I've had several "issues" for which I've started threads lately. My fingers are stronger as a result of the numerous follow up posts. wink.gif

You know, there are times when I don't find topics I feel compelled to add to for days. Then there are times when dozens of them trigger something. "You never know until you try..."

So, how'm I gonna know what my real post count is?? I should have been a statistician - a closet statistician. I make a comment or three about the lists being screwed up, and what happens???  dry.gif

With the first two and half years of TS unaccounted for you can only guess as what the number might be. Most of the old timers are down several hundred or a few thousand as the case may be.

Gregg, you could get one of those little clicker counters and use it every time you post. smile.gif

Actually I'm beginning to like having a lower number as it makes it seem like I have a real life.

Well, since you added all those posts to my total, you ought to change my "tag" to read "I live here"

One of my father's favorite books was called: "How to lie with statistics."  Don't remember who wrote it and I'm afraid it's gone away now.  I just like to think about the title from time to time!  dry.gif

Thanks Mayo, his copy had a funky plaid cloth cover, but I'm sure that must be the book.  I remember it had lots of New Yorker style cartoons and most of it didn't make much sense to me a the time.  I knew as soon as I mentioned the book that someone would point me to it.

I see my avatar has disappeared!  I'm going to turn my back and if whoever took it will put it back everything will be forgotten; otherwise I'm going to have to punish the whole class.   smile.gif  I always wanted to say that; but my fantasy was saying it to a whole class of teachers!

Later: It worked!  Now if I can prove with a PDF file of the postings wishing me a happy 50th last August just what my count was then can I "magically" put my post count back to that at least?
