Woops....... and even with the tape removed it's like making toast with your toaster on your lap.

On a personal note, I wish Apple would get out a the THIN RACE to the bottom, and make a well insulated MacBook/Pro and stop worrying about who's the thinnest and consintrate on who wants to burn their legs on the bottom of a laptop.
A 1/4 inch of insulation would make a world of difference to me. mad.gif

QUOTE
For prolonged use, place your iBook, PowerBook, MacBook or MacBook Pro on a flat stable surface. Do not leave the bottom of the computer in contact with your lap or any surface of your body for extended periods. Prolonged contact with your body could cause discomfort and potentially a burn.

Yeah my Macbook Pro gets hot too.  However, I don't think it really gets hot enough to burn.  I am typing this with it sitting on my lap and I am wearing shorts.  Sometimes when I am doing something processor intensive like encoding a DVD etc... I have to set it on a Table because it does get uncomfortable.  However, I really don't find it to be as big an issue as some do.

I will be trading this fully equiped QuickSilver in for that one.

I would like to get a MacBook, but the various issues I have read about (particularly excess heat) have convinced me to wait until Rev. B is released.  My G4 iBook may not have as much resale value then, but since I only paid $650 for it in the first place I have considerable wiggle-room in that regard.

I have tracked iBook problems since the IceBooks were first introduced and I think it is safe to say that they have had the most hardware problems of any Apple computer line. Both my G3 and G4 iBooks have had to go back to Apple for warranty repairs, among other problems. And while even Rev. B and C iBooks have had bugs, the Rev. A versions tend to have the most.

If you don't need a MacBook right now, I would advise waiting and let others discover the bugs and give Apple time to fix them.

More on the heat issue... An interesting post from the MacNN forum.

I am amazed at the problems Apple has with its portable Macs, while the Rev. A Intel iMac appears to be virtuallly defect-free. It seems to me that in the rush to get new products out the door Apple is neglecting its quality control...

My iBook is looking better every day!

The LowEndMac articles don't really address recent MacBook quality issues other than the discoloration problem, and it claims that using a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser fixes the problem.

Unfortunately, more than one post on the MacNN and Apple forums indicate that most of the time using a Magic Eraser does not fix the problem, nor do other cleaning agents that are also safe for use on plastic.
