Frances, as you know my dearly beloved hails from the Shetland Isles, she looked over my shoulder and said "what a lovely banner" followed by "but where is the Shetland flag?, if the the Isle of Man can be represented why not the Shetland Isles?" (sorry Peter)
Misery me, I am at a loss to find a suitable answer.
Save me.

Does anyone have a large portion of humble pie that I might consume (in private)
My only (humorous) excuse is that recently I suffered from double vision and I thought I was cured and (this is true) I visited my Consultant Optometrist this morning and was given the all clear!

Yup, that's where I checked!

My excuse for my ignorance - I am not a native Shetlander but a "sooth moother" (what they call all foreigners) - ie I came on the boat via the south mouth of the harbour!

Frances, long time since I've seen/heard the expression "sooth moother" as I was referred to when I was up visiting the in-laws.
Regarding the "Shetland" flag I recently attended a Shetland family history society meeting in South Shields and the "Shetland " flag was there in abundance.
How and when it came into being I don't know, it seems fairly new to me, it would be nice to know from whence it came. Rhoda was given a "Shetland" flag lapel badge by our son who knew more than his mother as to the significance of it.

I will ask about.  I think the Shetland flag has only gained formal recognition in the last few years, but I am not too sure.  I will find out and report back.

BTW, sooth moother can be a very derogatory term but it depends on the context and who says it!

Interesting reading!  Apparently the flag was not officially recognised until 2 Feb 2005 although it was "invented" in 1969!

the ponies are delighfully wicked with an evil sense of humour!

Oh, how we laugh!

I work with them 24/7 and some are nicer than others.  Some are definitely little bastards but others have exemplory manners.

The trouble is that alot of the time they are alot cleverer than their owners!
