Lost Desktop Folders
« on: July 08, 2006, 12:23:25 PM »
I'm running Tiger, latest update, on my mini. It dramaticaloy slowed down. I ran ONYX mantenance to repair permissions, delete, etc. This did not help. Then I noticed I was logged in twice. I shut down aqnd restarted but that did not help. Then I noticed all folders on the desktop were gone. The folder desktop was also empty. I can't find any of the missing folders or contents of those folders.

I presume I must rebuild these folders.

Does anyone know what happened or why? I don't want to do what must have happened again jawdrop.gif

Thanks Bob

Bob,

While I don't know what caused the problem, I have heard that a "Safe Boot" is often the cure:

1. Restart the computer (using the Power button or Reset/Interrupt button if necessary).
2. Immediately after the system startup sound, press and hold the Shift key until "Safe Boot" appears. Enter your password when asked.
Note: There may be a considerable delay, particularly on larger startup volumes, since the disk check and repair take place before "Safe Boot" appears.
3. After the system is fully started up, restart again normally.

Which user created

all folders on the desktop
You are probably logged in as the user who didn't.

Do not fear your enemies.  The worse they can do is kill you.  Do not fear friends.  At worst, they may betray you.
Fear those who do not care; they neither kill nor betray, but betrayal and murder exist because of their silent consent.
