Qwest DSL and MSN
« on: July 10, 2006, 12:47:11 PM »
Hello,

I have just moved to a new area and the only high speed I can get is qwest DSL.  I tried going back to dial-up but that drove me nuts.

Qwest says that MSN does not work on Macs and I would have to go with another provider.  Of course they did offer the other provider but that provider was $15 more a month.  I told them all a wanted was a connection point on a modem that had an ethernet port and they could just pretend that I never told them I had a Mac.  SO they sent the modem and it works fine.  Except (of coures) I cannot use the MSN software interface. Which is not a big deal, however I need to be able to add 2 more e-mail addresses for my family and I can't figure out where to go to do it.  I am guessing that is one of the functions availabe with the MSN software.

I have heard that there are many Mac users of msn.com and was wondering if anybody here could help me with my problem.

Thanks,

Bill

I used qwest msn for dsl for 3yrs until fiber optics came to my town a few months ago.  It did an admirable job for me, although the fiber is cheaper.  The Mac takes a different modem than the pc, but it gives the same results. Qwest is just the front that handles the billings and such. Msn is the one to contact,  The qwest contact should set you up with the msn contact.  Sounds to me like Qw has an new favorite that pays them a better kick back.  Ifyou stick to your guns and insist, you will prolly get the results you want.

HAH - I have had it with MSN - I got the e-mail problem from above figured out but now I just found out that they do not support SMTP/POP 3 e-mail - you have to use Hotmail to get your msn mail.  What a crock!!!! For some reason when I read that they offer e-mail accounts I did not think that it was going to be webmail.

I also found out that there is a new cable provider in the area that has not done any advertising yet - I will be calling them in the morning and sending this piece of sh*t modem back to Qwest.  ( I hate qwest anyway - I do not know what I was thinking)

ignore my avatar at the moment I have been pulling my hair out all day over this!
