This is a link to an image of the original.  I think it's interesting that the softness of the original makes the stiffness of the posing acceptible; but the photo replica kind of seems overly posed and unnatural!

Giant Mike - Do I remember correctly, w/o googling it, that the Rock River is the same river that flows through the Dells?  Do they have concerts in the same location, more or less, as the recreation?  I think the monkey was lost with the foreground ladies bustle!

Hmm, did you notice that the picture in the article is NOT the same as the first one gunug posted above?

Hey, gunug, where did the one you posted originate? huh.gif

Sorry it's so big!  I got it at the Webmuseum which is up on IBIBLIO:

I think the photo came from FLICKR:

Ah, thanks.

There is a set of photos there and you can see the variations in the other pics.

Great idea and well consummated. smile.gif

Seurat's technique was experimental and amazing and labor intensive (and a bit of a gimmick) but it's the composition and color that makes it a masterpiece. I always liked it. Making the photo replica must have been tough.

I don't find it anywhere now but I think I remember someone trying to model a 3D version of the same painting; kind of like a sculpture garden!

Since he didn't answer...

I am 99% positive, without looking at my atlas in the car, that the Wisconsin River flows through Wisconsin Dells, and the Rock River flows through Waukesha County, just a few miles west of the Milwaukee city limit.

.....

Finally got to see the images. Very neat!

They should try this with (some) other famous paintings.

Thanks Gregg!  I thing Giant Mike had already gone to the concert before I got that question in!  Hope he had fun!  I think it would be fun to reenact something by Salvadore Dali:

That's from the VirtualDali site: www.vitualdali.com

It might require lots of time and a blender, a blender big enough to get a horse into!
