That's been suggested before. It got "voted down" in an unofficial poll. I'd bet most people would vote to keep it as it is.

You might get more support if you stopped using abbreviations for words we don't usually allow on TS. Abbreviating them doesn't change the thought or the foul taste in ones mind/mouth. Reminds me of an old saying: "Why would you speak words relating to something that you wouldn't want to actually have in your mouth?"

Nor do I understand why you thought the words/abbreviations were even needed; "links and advice" are both certainly useful and always encouraged here. They are part and parcel of the "tech support" available here. Thinking.gif

The requests for separate forums usually have asked for the purpose of noncomputer topics. So far, "OT" labels seem to work for most of us...
But you're welcome to start another poll. smile.gif

I personally like things the way they are.

I skip some of the OTs, but frequently read them. And I definitely don't look on them as "crap".

We have a great bunch of people here. And the Admins do a great job of keeping things in line and interesting.

This is a great site. If you don't like it, go elsewhere.

Just my thoughts.

I think that as long as we strive to be "fairly" clear in the title what we're bringing up then we can safely avoid topics we don't have any interest in or ability to answer.  I don't know about adding an elevator to a house and I don't thing I've even looked at it!  If it says "OT" then perhaps it really is!

BTW, we do have a link for Links. smile.gif

It's also in the bar below the banner. Yes, it does need updating and expansion which will come eventually. We also are in the process of establishing a 'wiki' for additional information.

It's just that our overtime pay isn't that great... wink.gif

I enjoy the idea of WIKI's but I wondered what a TS one would be doing that isn't already happening some other way?

If Techsurvivors goes to separate fora for separate aspects of what it offers, Techsurvivors will become just like every other tech support bulletin board on the Internet.

If that is what one wants, one can find it elsewhere in abundance.  As an added bonus, some such boards cater to a culture of childish language, sarcasm and chip-on-the-shoulder attitude that some may find very appealing.

A direct result of the single forum format is that Techsurvivors is more than just a technical support board - it is a community.

I doubt that that will be changing.

If you are not interested in a topic - pass by!

Best regards,

Epaminondas

The 'hidden' problem here has been mentioned before: Adequately titled subject and description lines for a new topic/thread. In the midst of our most urgent computer problems, we tend to just 'shout' for help and sometimes don't think about what we put in the title. Being as specific as possible ( yeah, I know, there's not much room in the tittle area ) will help both the requestor and those who may be able to help. Likewise, prudent use of "OT:" and/or something similar, will also help those with limited time ( and patience? ) make more efficient use of it. Just a couple of ways to be a good neighbor in the 'community'! smile.gif

And new ( or repeated ) ideas are always welcome. Just don't get too upset if they aren't accepted immediately or enthusiastically at first. State your case, argue your points and accept the outcome. Remember, you win some, you lose some and the rest get rained out! eusa_dance.gif

I have gone back occasionally to rewrite the title or details lines to make more sense. Maybe we should put SOS in the title if we're really in trouble! sos.gif
