o/t (?) Banner
« on: July 13, 2006, 11:00:55 AM »
My new Patterdale (Fell) terrier pup - Beanie!

Hope you like it.

F

PS Does discussing the banner count as OT?  Sorry, if so, but so pleased with my Bean (and my banner!).

PPS.  She caught her first quarry this week - a flip-flop (plastic/rubber sandal!). We are very proud parents!

Hi Frances, GREAT banner!  Such a cute puppy, even tho we can just see her mouth mostly.
Do post some pictures of her.  Our dogs love to chew wood too, so we get them those Kong hard rubber thingies that you can put a dog cookie into.  They have a good time trying to extract the 'prize' from the Kong.  And when you toss them in the yard, they bounce crooked so that they are more fun to chase than a tennis ball.

Not too into dogs right now. My Dad's dog made a mess for us to clean up today. mad.gif

But, I do like the banner photo. smile.gif
Ya gotta applaud those bunnies for sacrificing their hearing just so some guy in Cupertino can have better TV reception.

My gosh, at first I thought that it was something from one of the "JAWS" movies, but now that I turn my head to the side I can see it's a puppy with sharp puppy ( eek2.gif ) teeth!

Hi Gregg,  Dont worry about the dog, they get caught short now and then, and we humans get angry.  But just think what would happen if you couldn't open a door, we would be in the same boat.  Dogs hate to make messes, actually they are very upset when it happens.
Patience and love wins, please forgive an accident.

Reason that I am writing this, is a yellowlab was beaten for an 'accident' by a person in our town Tuesday, there were witnesses including children, they called the police and the man was arrested and the dog was confiscated, and taken to a safe place.
So thats why I am a bit over-reacting to anything that involves humans vs. dogs today.

JCarter - I think there must be a lower level of hell waiting for people who abuse animals and especially dogs.  I'm not a member of PETA and I do eat meat but I draw the line here!

Anyone who mistreats animals is one step away from doing the same to humans.
Most serial killers had a history of abuse to their pets or other animals.

One of the ways I judge a guy I date is how they talk about their history with pets/animals or respond to encounters with dogs and cats... very good determinant of basic decency.

I always find (always, really, always) that animals are very good judges of character for humans.

They are remarkably accurate in their judgements.

Funny that.

I also find that you can tell how folk will bring up their children by the way their animals behave.  Sometimes you run away screaming!

Amen!  laugh.gif

I've often said that anyone who wants to have kids should be given a puppy and if the dog is properly trained and is still friendly after 1 year, then they can have children.

But then I am afraid so many puppies would be abused...  sad.gif

That is surely the truth, many serial killers have been tracked, by interviews of neighbours and people who have known them, and knowing they have a history of animal abuse.  Usually shortly after a report of abuse, at least in our town, if there are children in the family, this will trigger an investigation into this also.

Ive been bitten too, from over-exuberant play, or caring for a hurt animal.  But Never gotten an infection, which I can't say for a human bite, they always infect!
Ive had the Rabies innoculations, so will help in a situation that most people should avoid.
I was able to catch a stray dog last month who was approaching a highway, for example.  We eventually found the owner. Long story, but ended happily.

Our local dog officer is a saint, he does what he can within the extent of the law.  But we all know that laws have to be made stiffer nowadays.  Humane Society of America is working on that continuously.  Check out their web site.

Ive turned in several people who have tied their dogs out in all sorts of weather and left them to the elements or without water.  Never has a complaint in our town gone unanswered.  I wish all towns could have the resources that ours does.
We all have to be vigilant, and always call in if you ever see anything that approaches abuse for animals or children.  And dont delay.

Please don't be scared of the banner, aka Beanie.  She is a lovely little puppy, so nice and fun and friendly.  She has not chewed (yet) anything of ours, but has a box of toys which she takes things out and plays with.

She is such a dream to have around and is never nasty.  Dear little Bean.  Such a joy to have about.  She would make you laugh.

I know it all depends on how the dog's boss's grow her... i guess it's just as with a kid.

Back about 20 years ago my aunt was asked to raise a Iranian girl whose parents were concerned about political violence in that country.  She lived with them for 4 years and was pretty happy until they wanted to buy a dog.  In Iran apparently dogs are wild or used by the police; at least they aren't found in lower income households.  This girl was "absolutely" terrified of a just weaned Cocker Spaniel pup that they brought home.

Over time she grew to love it and it seemed like she was sadder to say goodbye to that puppy then my aunt and her family when it came time for her to return to Iran.  It's generally what you get used to is what I'm getting to here!
