WebDAV on external ethernet HDD?
« on: July 24, 2006, 07:12:58 AM »
I want to share an iCal calendar on my local network. However, since my webhost doesn't support WebDAV, I don't have a local file server and I don't let my computers run 24/7, I was wondering if it was possible (somehow) to make WebDAV work on an external ethernet HDD.

At the moment I am running WebDAV on my PowerMac. Since I am about to purchase the Lacie d2 ethernet mini 250GB HDD, I thought it was nice to use the HDD for the shared iCal calendar. Or are there iCal plug-ins to enable other network protocolls (others than WebDAV)?

Any ideas? smile.gif

Thanks!

spartacus,

If you're wanting to do WebDAV, you're going to at least need some machine running apache to be able to allow you that access....make sure mod_dav is loaded up.....I have a link to a really nice OS X webDAV config....but it's on the linux partition of this box, so I'll try to post it a bit later.

Take care,

Chris

Hey Chris.

Thanks. I already have WebDAV running on my PowerMac. It works nicely, but when the Mac is shut down, the files aren't available.

You point with apache is a good one. Didn't think about it. So probably, that won't be possible.
And does anyone know of iCal hacks/plug-ins to make the calendar file available throught normal LAN?

spartacus,

my apologies.

I guess I misunderstood your post.

So you're running apache, or how is that you're handling WebDAV on your machine? Are you talking about running a WebDAV client?

Just curious.

Not at my machine right now, but here's an O'Reilly pub on the topic - it's dated, but may help.....

WebDAV on OS X

Here's another.....WebDAV

HTH. Take care,

Chris
