I think that all the ads in this series are hilarious [and very funny, too], but I can't help but wonder whether or not they are effective in getting peasea users to consider switching...

John Hodgman cracks me up - I liked the self-pity one too!

NPR interviewed him a few weeks ago - he has a wonderful dry wit and was very funny.

A funny clip from the Daily Show (including a reference to the Mac ads):

I wonder that, too. They're more condescending than they were before, and the woman being a "professional" could come across as a double entendre, especially after the guy in drag walks in.

Presumably, Apple and teh Steve know what they're doing — the Cube, the hockey-puck mouse, John Sculley. . . .

I think that these ads play better with Mac users than the rest of the public.

Recently I was watching tv with my son-in law and several of his friends (all attorneys) and one of these ads ran.

After it was over I asked what they thought of it.

Their responses were something like the ad was cute, hip and humorous but presented nothing that would make any of them come close to considering a switch to a mac. sad.gif

Wow!

Thanks for the link, Paddy!

Turns out that John is a regular on the Daily Show [not watching ANY broadcast TV, I DO miss some things!] and there are quite a few clips of his bits on YouTube...

VERY funny!

Well, effective or not, it's nice to see a Mac user laughing at a "PC" user for a change.
Ya gotta applaud those bunnies for sacrificing their hearing just so some guy in Cupertino can have better TV reception.

The only person who has to "buy" an ad is the "owner" of the company being advertised. Nor would I expect any advertisement to provide much in the way of factual criteria to 'inspire' be to change to a different brand. Now days, all an ad is supposed to do is implant the name of the brand in the mind of potential buyers so that when the day comes for a purchase that name is remembered.

"No one ever got fired for buying an IBM." So, why would you expect any group of PC users to admit, in public, that they might consider changing. The desire to 'remain in the flock/herd/group' is very strong when in that group publically.

Frankly, I think the Vonage ads are some of the most inane I've ever seen and the audio 'logo' really causes teeth gnashing, but I usually can remember the name, even at my mental age! smile.gif

I was talking with my niece the other day about computers as she had been offered a new one by her father so she could help him with his CPA work. She chose a PC due to the belief that she had to use Windows for all the applications even though she had grown up on the iMac I gave them years ago.

While I was of course extolling the advantages of Macs, she commented that she was really tempted by the ads she had seen, especially the virus one. Unfortunately the information that the new Macs can double boot to either OS didn't come across. Her jaw fell to the floor when she found out that she could have run Windows on a new Mac.
Her comment: "Oh man, now I feel really cheated."

Too late to return the PC, though. dry.gif
