Problem opening .pps files
« on: October 24, 2006, 07:52:33 AM »
From time to time friends daft enough to stick with their PC's send me .pps files by email.  I have PowerPoint but whenever I try to open them I just get the iWork '06 window with two buttons: 'Buy' and 'Try', or 'Take a Tour'.

Just how do I open the .pps attachment?

First, get this little program, NeoOffice,
http://www.neooffice.org/
Then just put its icon in your dock, and drag the .pps file onto it. Then you will get a great translation.
This goes for .doc and other files.
A friend just sent me a .pps file with amazing photos(think they were National Geographics) and Neo Office turned it into a great full screen slide show for me.

A somewhat more limited method is to purchase <icWord> for $20 US. No animation but probably faster and smaller footprint. And you can also read all those ".doc" epistles!

For extra credit, return your comments to these 'friends' in MacWrite files! blush-anim-cl.gif

This most always works:

1. Click once/highlight and then do a Get Info (Command+I) on the .pps/Power Point file that was sent to you.
2. Click on the “Open With” triangle.
3. Select/Navigate to your version of Power Point from the drop down window.
4. Click on Change All.

From then on, all such documents/files (.pps) will open in Power Point.

Whoops, I didnt read this properly, you do have PowerPoint, I dont, so I use Neo Office instead. Although not often.

Thanks all.

Jim: I have icWord, but despite entering the registration code I have, it wouldn't work.

Harv: Used your method.  Worked a treat.   Thanks.
