Disabling mail accounts
« on: October 26, 2006, 09:58:20 PM »
I can't find a way to suspend mail accounts at yahoo (an account I never use): there is no mechanism by which to delete an account ... I've also noticed this on hotmail as well. Any ideas on how to disable these accounts?   huh.gif  huh.gif  wallbash.gif
Thanks, in advance!

Evening Richard,

I checked the Yahoo mail to find the answer to this.

Your base name cannot be removed as it is used to create disposable email addresses.

I suggest you send them a personal email to try to find a workaround. I couldn't find any real answers using their Mail Help. The above was the only information given.

The way it was done a few years ago had to do with mail box capacity. When it became full, they just didn't pass any more current mail through to the account.
Your only hope is that you reach a limit and the box will be too full to receive any more mail.  I think that mail received after that causes the mail to revert back to the sender. This happened to my husband, who went over his free limit two years ago. Senders who had a second email address for him, then tried to contact him via the secondary email address he supplied to them when he registered for their subscriptions; and he was able to give them the new email address,  if he wished.

I hope that you can get it resolved.

Blessings and Prayers,
MrsLop

Hi Richard,
I never was able to get rid of my Yahoo email address either, nor could I use it.  So it never filled up, it was just a way to ID me from what I could figure.  It just sat there like a bump on a log.
It always said it was "Bouncing", but nobody in our classes could figure out how to fix it.
So we left it as sort of an ID, and used our regular email address.
Its still there useless as can be.
Just ignore it.

Hi Richard,

About a week ago I decided to check my Yahoo email--hadn't been there in a long time and thought I should see if there was anything lurking around that needed attention.

Well, long story, short--I had quite a surprise!  They had closed my account w/o any notice.  They had my primary 'address' because I could access it from their site.  The informational dialog said that they terminated the acct. because I hadn't accessed it for 4 months and, if I opened another email acct. with them, I couldn't retrieve the previous mail.  It was gone forever.   taped.gif

So... apparently if you wait long enough, they'll close it for you; at least your Yahoo acct.  Have no idea about Hotmail--have never used it.

Sorry I can't help you any more than that--good luck in your efforts...

Laurel

This is also apparently the case w/ hotmail - I just checked, after not checking my hotmail account for a l-o-n-g time, and got this msg:

We temporarily deactivated your account; all account content such as messages have been cleared.

Your account was temporarily deactivated because you have either:

    * Not signed in for at least 30 days.
    * Not signed within 10 days of registration or activation.
    * Chose to close your account in the last 30 days.
