I did not (necessarily) expect this thread to turn "serious" - except with respect to a searching "evaluation" of male qualities and characteristics

– but since it has, let me put in a positive word for TomTom's neat SW which turns a few Palm models into amazing GPS devices.
Several months ago, I asked here for advice as I was contemplating the purchase of same for my Palm T|X. FWIW, after some "bumps in the road" – so to speak – installing all the North American maps, it's use has been faultless and fun. I continue to be amazed at the voice prompts (perfect enunciation for aged ears!!) and the detailed readouts, continuous portrayal of location in a moving graphic and in a "literary" description that always shows . . .
- time of day
- street name/route number at present location, beneath which route moves
- miles/driving-time to destination
- direction of the "next" turn on one's planned route
- all nearby gas stations/restaurants
- etc. etc. . . . and all inside my handy, dandy Palm. properly illuminated for ambient light conditions
Its cost – SW (only) – was $269, on some kind of special sale last Jan/Feb.
Moving it from car to car is a no-brainer, and a substantial convenience for elderly road-warriors.
The newest model of the SW, I understand, comes with all maps ready on an SD card, absent the need for the vexing instructions that were the only downside (now resolved) of my model.
If you want the flexibility of having all this amazing "stuff" in your Palm, it's really a winner!
Oh yes. It's a Dutch/British company, but its US Tech Support is located . . . in Boston . . . w/helpful people lacking any accent!
I hope someone finds this info useful.
