Intrusive nasty pop up addvertisement

Every once in a while, these stupid intrusive pop up ads appear out of nowhere.
When I hit DENY the do not go away.
As you can see, they have even infiltrated into you-tubes site.

I dont want them stored on my computer, and why would they want to do so?
Could these contain a virus or something that could do harm?

Currently there are NO VIRUSES that affect OS-X, so no worries!

It's a security measure, strangely enough.

It is alerting you that the movie uses Flash and some of the content wants to be transfered to your hard drive while it loads.  Kinda like a Cache.

I played the same movie on my other Mac using Foxfire and the "thing" was not there.
But if its like a Cache, then it should be harmless.  But would like to be able to "Deny", to make it go away.
I did put a question on the Adobe Flash forum to see if anyone knew what the purpose was.  If I get something conclusive, I will post it here.
I think your explanation is it, a Cache, perhaps to make the movie play smoother.

Nobody at the Adobe Flash forum has a clue either, so when you see this thing on your screen, just dump that page and go to different browser, and view whatever you were looking at, and you wont see it.
Ive used Firefox and never seen it there.
Odd that Adobe Flash people have are not familiar with this, nor have seen it?
Hey, Tacit, you are the expert on this web stuff, when you return home, please let us know if you think this is anything important.  Hopefully it is not.

I do noit know what is your preferred browser but FireFox has  anti-pop up! In FF 2.0. Go to Preferences>Content and check the box that says "Block Pop Up Windows". Voila! I think that was also available in FF 1.5. That may be why you don't get poip ups when you are in FF.

I generally use Safari, but have disabled pop ups in it too, as well as Firefox.  
So this 'thing' is something else, will be interesting to really see what it is!

Perhaps its a bacteria, not a virus, and I might be able to wash my Mac with kitchen soap, how about some platensimycin, eh?  
It might be something that got left here by a Halloween dragon that ooooozed from monster sized pumpkin innards!

coincidentally,
i was just looking for a script to embed in my webpage
to bypass any popup blocker
and pop up anyway

(it's a school webpage... so i think this type of popup is an exception to the rule of blocked popups)

It will get by a "pop up blocker" because it is not a "pop up". It's simply an alert by the Flash player/plug in. If you block Flash content you'll probably never see it again. FF has extensions to provide that capability. Works great ( at least in pre-2.0 ), speeds up downloads, prevents 'flash trash' from cluttering up the screen. smile.gif

FWIW:

When using Safari (most always), I use PithHelmet to block image, javascript, Flash ads, and GIF animations. Shareware, US$ 10.00.

I think it's a great app (well, technically it's just a plugin) and have never had a problem with it. In general, I find it does a much better job at doing its thang than do the FireFox counterparts. coolio.gif
