Just upgraded FotoMagico - wish I hadn't
« on: December 01, 2006, 03:43:01 PM »
Just upgraded FotoMagico only to discover that my iBook will not cope with this and has not got enough power to cope.

How do I reinstall the lesser version?  Is it in my 'puter somewhere (little open brown box)?

Thanks
Frances

Frances, I don't know which older version you're looking for, but 1.5.1 is available from a rather small link near the bottom of this page:

http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/15278

Couldn't find 1.7.1 if that's what you're looking for, as 1.8.1 seems to have replaced it just about everywhere.

Unless you saved the original .dmg file, you won't have the older version on your machine if you ran an update on the program. Try searching for it. I guess this is one reason to burn CDs or otherwise archive the original downloads of any shareware bought online - in case subsequent releases fall over.

Yep. I always save the compressed download of anything I get online. It's saved me from re-downloading several times. smile.gif

I found the developer extremely helpful ( even for a Brit! harhar.gif ) earlier this year. I'd give him an email message asking for access to the version you want. I'd be surprised if he didn't want to know about the excess demand on your computers resources, he'd at least want to post that info on his 'system requirements' area.

Never be hesitant to contact third-party ( non-profit hungry company ) developers, they are usually very easy to deal with and their main concern is customer satisfaction. That's their main source of 'advertising' after all. Most do this work more for the joy of helping others than for the 'profit'. That's one reason I really detest those who simply 'use' their software and never register/pay the usually small prices.

Thanks for your suggestions - I eventually found the old version backedup in my apps folder of my external hard drive.  So replaced it.  Happy now.

I did email Boinx and they said I need to upgrade my puter as it obviously did not have what it takes to run the newly upgraded app.  So, as this appears to be one of the ways i make an honest living and I have been commissioned to make some films for other folk, I have now emailed my Mac dealer and ask him to find out about prices for a bigger Mac.

Thanks again for help.

Of course, that could apply to some of Apple's upgraded apps. Although they will at least work ( I'm assuming that FotoMagico was crashing ), but they make use of many new 'Core' routines that need the newest/fastest chips to do some things. Even the ripple effect of a Widget requires a fairly new chip, won't work on my 'old' 1GHz, G4 iMac. Same with some of the transitions in Keynote. And some of the graphic effects in Leopard will not work when I get that, either. I suspect FotoMagico is using these new Core Video routines. But you can apparently write off the cost of a more powerful machine, great! clap.gif Could you use any English translation work?! harhar.gif smile.gif
